Do you really believe there are no "no-mark" dick heads amongst our support. Dont be so holy. Do you really think there are no wankers in the 47000 that turn up. Dont be silly. There are plenty of wankers in the world but they are all "fellow human beings" ffs.

No, and no, but the discussion was about "City Square", not "pissed up no marks", something which if I remember you introduced into the discussion about pricing when you explained you didn't want people who'd had a few pints in "City Square".

By the way, some of your subsequent replies quoting other posters posts, that are nothing to do with this forum, let alone this discussion, are winning you no friends, and quite frankly I'd be embarrased by them even if I'd a few drinks myself.

I do not want to "win" friends. This thread was started as a congratulatory thread about what the club is trying to do for the fans. It was then hijacked by people venting their spleens about having to pay 50, 60, 70 or 80p a pint more than they do at the pubs that they have been enjoying going to for the last 3 or 4 years. I admit, I may have been over zealous , and a little silly, in my counter arguments. However, I am weary with the negative shit in the press frm day to day and dont then want to come on here and read negative shit about, what i perceive, to be something positive that the club are doing.

those pissed up 'no marks' as u call them are more likely these days to stop people getting a kickin than actually doing the kickin, I've been stuck with a bunch of them at various places when its gone 'tits up' and i'd rather have them around me than a table full of suits eating prawn sandwiches.

Exactly this!!

After reading some of the threads today, and some of the wankers Ive met in the ground. I hate alot of our fans haha

Think this was you as well.

Ive actually know you to be a decent poster, fuck knows what's gone on in you head tonight. But when you read back tomorrow you will be embarrassed. And yes I do hate alot of our fans the negativity towards our manager's/player's knocks me sick sometimes. Held us back for years.

I wont be embarrassed tomorrow, but why o why has this thread turned from saying well done to City into slagging the club off on beer prices. I also apologise about before but I was very frustrated.

-- Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:26 am --

What the fuck are you on about?

You are unfathomably daft. If you were to take your head out of your arse for a second, you might be able to see why the club, as generous as the city square project might be, have nonetheless failed to connect with a large majority of the club's lifeblood on this whole pricing issue.

So the club can only connect with fans by giving them cheap beer. What sort of connection is that ? Please elaborate.

It seems like most of the people complaining about prices are forgetting the BIGGEST problem City have.

Mary D's might be cheaper for a pint, but they are open 7 days. City is open once a week at best. Same for food compared for a restaurant. Buying in bulk is just not feasible for the most part.

Forget the prices, the staff or even the punters.

Average attendance last season = 45,513
Capacity at Mary D's and surrounding pubs approx = 5k (a generous guess)
That leaves around 40,000 matchday punters (These are more likely the target customers)
Capacity at City Square = 5000

City know they will easily get a 1 in 10 walk through at City square pre match, possibly less when people go home after but they will still get a fair few letting traffic etc clear for the hour or so they are open.

No one HAS to change there current prematch activities, City are after the strollers and the fans that dont want to head into a local boozer, the square will be a success off the back of these people alone in my opinion.

Undoubtedly another good move by the club and another option I appreciate being given the CHOICE of.

Good post, bang on the money.

It would have been nice of course if the prices had been cheaper. I do think that it constitutes a bit of failing in my book; a missed opportunity. £3.00 a pint (all pints) with 4 for a £10.00 offer would have been the sweet spot I think. Food, I'll decide based on the quality of it whether it's acceptable pricing - will be giving that a try tonight. Service would be another nice thing. If the pints are flowing more freely by someone who speaks English as a first language. Again, I'll judge that tonight. Overall, though, this must be positive. It's another option. If you don't want to use it, there's no compulsion.

I feel like a heretic giving this opinion though because fook me there has been some childish argument going on in this thread and some seriously snobby talk about pricing out anyone who likes more than two pints at a match.

it's brand new, so naturally there will be things that will be improved and dealt with as the season goes on. Maybe if the demand is good City can negotiate their catering contracts to lower prices if the financial targets for the square are met, just a thought. Obviously there are probably plenty of young to middle aged men who want to go and drink and will do so at Mary D's, but there will be young families who will not find a pub environment suitable for their kids who may go here, people who see it as an easier option than finding a pub to meet at, or for teenagers who can't get served in a pub, or older fans who would find a pub environment very difficult and uncomfortable, so really I think City are trying to create an environment suitable for as many groups of fans as possible, and to be honest if the beer was cheap it would just turn into an outdoor pub, and I'm not having a go at the people who enjoy that environment, but that would I assume defeat the purpose of the project.

Does no one go out in town here? It's been well over £3 a pint for a while now. They'll do a fine trade.

I pay £2.80 for a pint of Strongbow in town. Nowerigan Blue do cheap drinks every monday I bet a weatherspoons is cheaper than our ground aswel.

If I want a different bottled cider its £3.60.

Fair enough, cider is a bit cheaper usually. But I've not paid less than £3.30 or so for a Heineken for a while now in town. Thats what it is in the Waldorf IIRC. And Wetherspoons is cheaper than everywhere, it's their business model.

If the square is well laid out with City stuff on the screens, I don't mind paying an extra 50p a pint for the build up. We'll see what it's like.
