city taking legal action

I've always understood stretching (even generously) the truth of a story, or publishing rumours. But complete fabrication.... just bizarre.

Bloody good job, too. It might be only a trivial matter, but if the club lets them get away with it the next made-up story will get even bigger ("City's new owners say any player who signs for the club will be given a 14-bedroom mansion in the countryside, a fleet of luxury cars and a solid gold Rolex watch...etc").

Good on you, City. Come down hard on these piss-poor tabloid hacks.

Can't see the problem with the story to be honest. Might even give some of our targets food for thought if they thought they might be up for "gifts" like these.

HAHA, this is excellent, im loving city more and more as the days go on.
Teach that rag paper a lesson :)

Well done City. This is the sort of professional approach the people running the club have brought. We can't have the papers making up rubbish.

I can understand why a paper would make up a transfer rumour but lying about some watches doesn't make sense to me.

its hardly a damning story though is it? bit of an over reaction i think.

I'd disagree. I thought it made the club / owners look bad. Angle of article was 'Rich Arabs dangling trinkets at their toys'. I'm glad it turned out to be swallocks (The Sun - oh why did I not know it would be shite). It had oh so many unsavoury undertones.

Well, that's my opinion anyway. To be honest I'm a bit dissappointed in myself, given everything we've seen of how our owners conduct themselves, to have even considered for a minute this might be real.

I agree with you Lazarus; it makes owner and club look a bit cheap; fans believe this sort of thing - I did!

I'm glad we're not letting the likes of 'The Sun' piss all over us anymore. Just looking at the way the announcement on MCFC is worded;

The club is pursuing the matter legally and will do so in the most robust fashion possible.

It shows that we mean business. Also it sets a precedent, and maybe they'll think twice before publishing bullshit about us in the future.

that only sends a message out to fans - a newspaper lawyer would shrug shoulders... sorry but it's true

Yeah, I imagine they'll have to print a retraction/apology which is probably what the club expects.

No it doesn't. You could not be more wrong. The newspaper lawyer will be happy as he gets to go to court and bill for the priviedge. However, as it is wrong and could be considered slander as it paints Man City in a bad light. Squadering £168k on 4 players for watches. Cause divisions in the team etc etc.
