Hows about owning it first..........GO

MCC flat out refuse to sell up. They're onto a cash-cow and they know it. You can't buy what's not for sale.

It's not MCC's to sell. They lease it to us and the revenue goes to them and the money stays in Manchester. They sell it to us and the money goes to Sport England in London.

My bad, good catch. Sport England own it.

My previous comment stands though.

It's truly amazing that they continue to stick fingers in their ears and scream "CITY DON'T SELL OUT!" when we sell out the majority of games. Exact same situation as their 4,000-10,000 empty seats at Old Trafford as revealed by GMP, people have paid but don't show up (I hate it and maybe increased ST prices will make people value their STs more, but the club has pocketed the cash so why would they hold back from expanding?).

It's an imaginary stick to beat us with. Just like Stockport and the now long gone 34 years.

Put it this way. Even after 34 years of winning nothing we were still getting crowds of 45,000+ at the Etihad. That includes being in the shadow of the biggest club in the world(arf!), who have had 26 years of continual success.

So you can imagine what crowds we could pull with a successful football team, an expanded stadium, and affordable ticket prices.

If we can fill the upper tier of the away end(1000 seats) against lesser teams when they haven't sold their full allocation, then we will have no problems filling a 54,000 seater stadium against the top teams. (Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, United, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle, etc)

BTW. Is this phase 3 or 4? Can't remember what we decided the phases would be.

agreed but the affordable ticket price bit is being eroded

given the proportion of overall revenue that gate receipts represent these days I think the club should be a little more aware of the financial realities that many of their punters are experiencing these days and imposed a SC price freeze

that elastic is stretched right to snapping point for many now methinks

Phase 2 off-pitch (Stadium and collar site) I reckon..

When you see the amount of interest this little snippet has created imagine what will happen when the plans are actually announced!

Pray tell please - is it more than we imagine at the moment?

-- Thu May 16, 2013 10:58 pm --

The thick ***** on Rag Cafe still aren't getting it.

Boy are they in for a shock.

Not sure what to make of the stadium expansion really. With all the empty seats they've had this season there's certainly no need for it now, but I guess they're planning ahead. I'm guessing they're also looking to squeeze out any possible income to help coping with the FFP and the owner most likely won't care about whether he actually gets money back from the investment or not.

What sort of shock? To something even we are yet to be told?

Re: City to expand Etihad to 60,000

Remember this video I posted?

I'm no civil Engineer, but hazarding a guess, the South Stand might be expanded something like this. From the back upwards, Obviously the forecourt in front of the South Stand will have to be closed off during construction. Note how the stand is still being used during the early stages of construction.

I'm in 217 - am I right in thinking the roof will have to come off to do this ?. I might be needing to buy a new coat for for January next year.

I thought GX City suggested a few months ago that the extra tier will be built within the existing roofline (i.e. the roof at the South / North Stands will remain as they are)? The images look like that's the case to me. I could of course be wrong though?

Yeah, pretty much this. It's going to be inside the roof.

And I fail to see how they can fit 6,000 in at each end with that constraint... !?
