City v Boro post match

Noticed a number of runs made by Aguero and other forwards which were ignored by the midfielders. Looks like our midfielders are not confident of an over the top ball to the running forwards. Yaya was one who could do it with pinpoint accuracy.

As frustrating as it is to have drawn the last 3 games, it's got very little to do with tactics. Tactically we've dominated, but have simply failed to put away numerous gilt edged chances. I think we had 25 shots on Saturday. Not sure how that can be anything to do with tactics? If we weren't creating chances, you could argue tactics. Poor finishing is letting us down.

Correct.

25 shots of which only 7 were on target.
As pep said after the game he does not think allowing 2 attempts to the opposition and generating 10 attempts by City is bad so we are actually doing quite well against a team that initially parked the bus.

The main problem is hitting the target (25 attempts only 7 on target), then secondly to score with the ones that are actually on target.
This is a problem that our near PL opponents do not appear to have (neither do Boro seemingly) so if it is already being addressed perhaps the quality of our strike force is nowhere near as good as we think it is.

Its so easy to blame a defensive mistake for the loss of 2 points but the real problem is elsewhere.

'Sussed out' doesn't mean it's a foolproof plan to foil us, it means they've worked out the best chance of getting something against us. They're still likely to lose, but it's their best hope.
If you have an abundance of attacking flair (like Liverpool) then go toe to toe with us - as we tend not to face that very often and when we do we can struggle to deal with it.
If you don't have an abundance of attacking flair, then defend for your lives and hope you can convert a chance on the break, or a rare venture into our half.

In one sense it's stating the bleeding obvious, but plenty of poor teams in the past have tried to go toe to toe with us and been hammered, but more and more teams have 'sussed' they stand a better chance trying to frustrate us with 10 men behind the ball.

Yet we still generated enough chances to have won the game with ease.

As you say they hope for a breakaway goal and pin all their hopes on not conceding presumably because their strikers are likely to score with that one opportunity. Not a very good strategy if many chances are needed just to convert one goal.

Yaya's 'Quarter Back' passes were a thing of beauty. Very few players can drop a ball on a tanner with backspin. The great Yaya could & did.

What a player at his peak. We've been blessed !!
