To be far they deserved it and at least they attacked us - shame we were so below par to make it a competitive game

To make it a competitive game.......what game were you watching???????????????.

City 25 shots...65% possession (not sure if that is true) and 12 corners.
Chelsea 18 shots...35% possession and 6 corners.

To say we were not even competitive is quite ridiculous and a total over-reaction.

I hate admitting it - because I despise Jose - but the better team won and we were damned lucky it was only 1-0.
One thing that concerned me was that when we tried to clear our lines a Chelsea player usually got on the end of it - Ivanivic's goal an example. Great block by Vinnie but straight to a player standing with no City player anywhere near him.
Hopefully we will have some of our injuries cleared up for the FA Cup tie and we can send Jose back to London with his tail stuck up his bum..

It is a damned shame because i find myself frustrated with Pellegrini, a man i have massive respect for.

I can't help but feel we could have done more in midfield.
I mean tactically, not effort wise.

Garcia/Fernandinho injured, who would you have played in CM?

Losing Aguero was bad enough, but we'll have trained all week on the presumption that Fernandinho was in our starting line up.

To break down a side like Chelsea we need absolute cohesion in our side; with no Silva/Aguero link, and then no Yaya/Ferna link, we were always going to produce a jarred performance rather than our usual silk, we didn't even have Demichelis rampaging forward from CB any more.

Chalk it down as a bad day at the office, we'll see them at the finish line.

right not read anything yet just got back but here is what i made of it all FWIW,
the best team won, Navas worked his bollocks off (our MOTM), can't call MP for going 4-4-2 as we have been smashing teams but it didn't work, he now really does need to learn that sometimes you have to take the opposition into account and play according,
when faced with a team with top class players and we not having all the possession they will have the ball enough to exploit how open we are at the back and punish us when they get there, not moaning still having the best season and loving it but i said on the "opinions on Barca" thread that 4-4-2 v Barca home or away they will tear us apart

does anyone else feel its so much harder to take a loss these days ?
I'm still prepared for defeats, but what I don't get it how after a defeat there are suggestions about selling half the team, this player and that player is suddenly shite, and similar talk like that. This never used to happen supporting our club. We'd talk about positive ways to improve, and accept that some games were lost purely because we just weren't at the races. At times it seems like some fans just want to buy and sell as if they're playing Football Manager, thinking that is the only way you can win matches.

just ignore it mate i do, my GF was laughing in the car driving home cos my old fella was on speaker phone moaning how MP should of done this and that and i was going "yeah dad yeah" while giving the dash the bird, did people think we were never going to lose a big game at home ? sometimes managers get thing wrong but as long as we get it right more often than not we will be ok, stick Kun Fern and Nasri in that side tonight and i think we win but we all have to deal with injuries and we can just hope we have most available for the big games, Bad Timing Bad Result, Move on

Mourinho has always said that his 4-3-3 beats any 4-4-2.

Some poor performances tonight, Negredo and Dzeko especially. Silva could have been more clinical too.

Demi is going to get absolutely slaughtered tonight somewhat undeservedly. His major error is that he isn't Ferdi.

I thought Demi played very well, lots of good tackles and passed well too, not as mobile as ferny but put a good shift in

I thought he did well, too.

It was the attacking players, Merlin in particular, who let us down. His passing was well below the standards we have come to expect and it allowed the chavs to counter-attack much more often than they should have.

And those two chances he missed.

So frustrating.

On another point, talkshite claimed that the arrogant one didn't 'park the bus' what part of playing three defensive midfielders is not parking the bus?
They defended in numbers, but broke away repeatedly. However whenever they broke, they only threw 3-4 men in support of the man on the ball

I didn't think they played that well. I was just very disappointed with how we played. I can' argue with the result. They deserved to win. But we were capable of beating CFC. We would have done so with our strongest team, but should still have gone on to win the game, even having gone a goal down with a weakened team. Some key players like Silva just had really bad games. And the team in general just didn't stick to the pattern of play that has seen us play so well all season

He could do something to try to change it but not too much. We just lacked a personal to do it tonight, specially if Milner was not fit completely.

We're just miles behind top teams in that position.
