CITY v Liverpool: Post Match Discussion

taking away everything else the only reason we've dropped any points all season is because of our defensive sloppyness and mistakes.

we'd have won today if it wasn't for Lescott's needless deflection, it was the soft goal at Fulham, 2 soft goals in Naples, 2 soft goals in Munich, soft goals in the Community Shield and we were poor defensively at home to Napoli as well.

That in itself is a positive and a negative, the negative is our silly mistakes which is the only thing holding us back, even in games that we win, and a positive because it's us making the mistakes, so we can, and by now, should be rectifying it.

Apart from Cavani at COMS maybe and Fletcher maybe at OT, has anyone genuinely scored a good goal this season that we couldn't have done a lot better with?
Today's og was a fluke. Shot was going wide, but it's instinct to try and block it.

Liverpool got the luck today and some refereeing decisions but still couldn't beat us. We weren't at our sharpest after a tough week, but I wouldn't describe us as defensively sloppy. They only got on top in the last 15 mins when we went down to 10 men and possibly fatigue took hold. Newcastle were lauded as |Geordie heroes and they got battered in the last 20 mins, but you call us sloppy?

We have been defensively sloppy this season, yes, Wolves home, Spurs goal, United's goal in the Community Shield, Newcastle home, Napoli both games, Bayern we switched off, Villa home for their goal and several chances, even today we were letting them have cracking chances on several occassions and that's all because they pushed against us.

Maybe we also need some "how to deflect the ball away from the goal" training.

I'd be more concerned if we were conceeding goals by being carved open by great play to be honest.

The fact that oppositions have on the whole relied on a mistake to score is a good thing.

You are a perfectionist. I'll not deny we haven't been sloppy on the odd occasion, but you do realise that we have the best defensive record in the Premiership, and at the same time the best attacking record. I hope you don't think we were sloppy today. Hart's goal came under pressure only when we were down to 10, and tired after midweek.

It would have been a good point before the game. It's definetly a good point now, given the last 20 minutes (tiredness set in) and the red card (cemented the tiredness). Lead intact.

The real downside for me in the performance, was flinging away a pretty dominant start, i would like to see the team kill the game in phases - like right after taking the lead today, and the start of the second half in Naples. Went from silencing anfield, to handing the initiative to Liverpool, which they never really handed back - how that happened after the first 30 I'll never know. Earned the right to boss the game then pissed it away giving up a fluke goal.

You can't cater for fluke goals like that. We conceded that goal but didn't let it upset us too much though I was absolutely gutted at the time.

im not one to usually have a go at ref's or individual opposition players but the ref's performance today was appauling and suarez is a disgrace.....

he was clearly trying to get kompany sent off with his diving tot he ground at every opportunity. how he wasnt booked for it ill never know

the ref let a couple of awful challenges by liverpool players go unpunished esp the one that went straight through the back of a player.

and balo's sending off was a disgrace....we should appeal that for sure.

a point in those circumstances is a good result in my opinion and we are still 5 pts ahead of second place and its nearly december...get to new year in this postion and that is real progress!

Suarez does it week in week out. You'd think refs would have him sussed by now.

Of course Hansen and Lawro wont get MOTD to focus on his antics, yet Mario can blink and he'll be sent off.

Happy with a point, and very happy with how the season is going

For what it's worth:

1. I thought Liverpool were excellent in their harrying and pressing
2. I thought we looked tired but still did well considering
3. I thought Reina should have been carded for handball
4. I thought Atkinson seemed determined to book our players, yet let persistent fouling from Lucas and Adam, along with persistent diving from Suarez, go unpunished - all we ever ask is consistency
5. We're still unbeaten in the league and 5 points clear, so whilst nothing gained, nothing lost either
6. I think we have an issue with teams that press the way Bayern, Napoli and now Liverpool have done. We don't seem to recognise that if there are two or three players pressing one of ours, we need to switch play (if we can) more quickly - I thought we switched play very slowly
7. I thought Balo's second card was very harsh
8. I thought Bad Yaya turned up again for us today. I don't like Bad Yaya, I like Good Yaya, please bring back Good Yaya.

So overall, disappointed we did not win, but settle for a point all day considering Hart was magnificent and without his heroics, they could easily have took all 3 points.
