City v Liverpool Post Match

Re: Dipper Support

Big game for them. A revenge match. But they didn't seem up for it.

I got caught in their fans on the walk back into town and the only thing that seemed to make them happy was Glen Johnson getting injured

Were the Dipper fans quiet last night? Didn't hear much from them even before our first goal. Bit of a hangover from last season, I reckon. The Etihed must have been the last place they wanted to visit for their first away game.

Shared a lift with a couple of regular game attending scousers, they said exactly the same.

Re: Dipper Support

Chatted to a couple of lads on the way back into town, decent lads to be fair, both very subdued and non of the usual RAWK type hysteria. It appears most of the sensible ones are just hoping that they can finish top 4 and anything over and above is just a bonus. Neither of them seemed blown away by the signing of Mario, more hopeful than optimistic to be honest.

From where I was stood we never really got going until the goal. In the second half we started to play our game a little more and that showed, there's a vast difference in quality between the two sides - this is what happens when Suarez goes and Lambert comes in. Of course it's not just that transfer, it's the rest of their transfers of that standard - who of their new signings would get into our team? We had another couple of gears to shift into, we're looking like a machine. I'm pissed off that there's an international break after Stoke as we would have fantastic momentum going into Arsenal and Chelsea.

3). To most Liverpool fans this season a top four finish (if we play well like we did last season it will turn into a title challenge), and getting out of the champions league group (were in the 3rd tear) or past the second round will be acceptable this season.....Whereas Man City not finishing in the top 2 or not getting to the semi finals of the champions league will probably be seen as a disapointment.

Sorry, you can't have that. Only Brendan Rodgers can heap pressure on the opposition while taking it all off his own club. Truth is, after last season the the expectation is firmly on Liverpool to produce results, whether you like it or not.

Also, you're not the first team to come to us and think you bettered us by having more possession in the first half. While I would agree you looked like the better team, I don't remember you creating too many clear cut chances. Spurs came here last season and some of their fans thought they were unlucky too...they lost 6-0.

(Polite) Congratulations Man City on a good win. Liverpool fan here and season ticket holder. After the match last night this forum seemed to give us some credit but this morning it seems to be more stick (understandable and I've learnt to not look at the opposite forum again after the match). Just a few points I'd like to make....

1). We were the better side 1st half especially until Moreno's mistake. Then your cutting edge which we lacked came to the for (good pressing and finish from Jovetic though) but still Moreno's mistake.

2). After the 1st goal there was a sense of bloody hell were not going to get anything from this now which only a few sides manage to make me feel. Even Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich would probably accept a 1-0 loss at the etihad. That's the level of team you have got now....Even the bookies gave us a +1 handicap which rarely happens.

4). In the end you were the favourites to win and you DESERVED to win but we did play well in the first half but lacked a cutting edge. After the Sunderland win I was worried but strangely after yesterday loss I'm not worried at all.

Good Luck and if we don't go on a good run again. I hope its you or Arsenal that win the league.

Liverpoolfan and seasonticketholder? Good for you.

1. You had more of the ball in the first half, but you might ask yourself if we just let you have the ball and possession just to take out what could be dangerous to us: room for pace. But if it helps you have a good day, you can have the better of the first half of a game that last 90plus minutes in a season that last 38 games. Remember that.

2. We were trailing 0-2 last term we played you in the booing atmosphere. We never gave up and should have won it only for our not-fit captain to make a howler and hand you the title. Oh, sorry, that was in April.

3. Happily we just listen to our chairman and not to the expectations made up by the media. We need to try and progress all-round as a club. Yes, we are expected to win silverware, but the obvious thought is it will come whenever we play good football and everyone at the club is happy. No need to finish top 2 (top 4 is a diferent matter) or semis in the CL, depending the way we present ourselves in these competitions.

4. Again, you can have the 1st half, yet a game last 90+ minutes. And for what it's worth, you played Southampton last week, not Sunderland. Easily to misjudge that ... as a season ticketholder.

I just hope we win the league and do well in all cupcompetitions, and that the former "top 4" finish out of the top 4 and won't survive the groupstages of the CL.

City-fan not interested going to any opponents forum

After we scored the 3rd, the game was finished and we eased off the gas. I think had we needed 5 or 6 to win the league on GD yesterday, we would have gone and got them.

I think City are beginning to look like world beaters. We have progressed so so much under Pellegrini. This is a side with a core of players having missed most of pre-season because of the World Cup. This is a side who won the league last season and played about 60games in all competitions. It is a side who everyone else wants to beat. Despite all of that we went to Newcastle and a new £12m signing just completely covered the centre backs who were completely shot come 80mins. It was a professional performance and showed just how strong we are. The movement of Jovetic to allow others time and space, it is pure class. I thought our formation might be our downfall last night, but Pellegrini got it spot on by telling the team to drop deep. I don't think I have come across a manager that I struggle to find fault with. We played into Liverpool's hands at Anfield last season by allowing them to drag us out of position and exploit space in behind.

This time we said, there's the ball, come and get past us. We dropped a bit deeper and they were clueless. Instead, we picked them off as they made the costly mistake. Just like Chelsea did at Anfield last season. From then on we just kept the ball and then within one or two quick passes we found the space in behind and scored two goals that they would have been expecting to score. It was a shame we conceded but yet again it was so professional. We have a squad that can break teams down, can be patient with the ball and can be quick and direct. We have so many options and are looking excellent under a manager who made a few mistakes last season but already from the two games we have played so far, learns from them and knows how to get the 3 points. We didn't sit back and hope for a goal, we stopped Liverpool from playing their game and picked them off.

I also believe this team is on the verge of something very special indeed. Not only do I think we are the best side in England, I also think we are the best side the premier league has produced in the last ten years.

With regards to your point about the manager, and the way he's learnt how to face Liverpool: when Pellegrini joined he was asked what his biggest challenge was that season. He basically said that in Spain he knew every team, every manager and every player, but in England that would take some time. I think we are starting to see that experience come through and it only makes us stronger.

I think the champions league is there for the taking with this generation of players and this management team.

It was pissing it down, they got taken apart by the team who 'stole' their Premiership, and their giro's don't arrive until Friday.
All things considered, they didn't have a great deal to shout about.
No, but it was 0-0 in the first half for 40 mins and this was a huge game for them. All Summer they must have been reflecting on City taking the title from them when they thought it was won. I can't imagine a bigger motivation to come here and make a point

Liverpool fans have an undeserved reputation for getting behind their team. We've gone to Anfield without a hope many times, got beat but made our presence count
