City v Stoke Post Match Thread

We got the three points which is all that matters today. BUT FFS Dzeko has got to go! Sorry to put the lad down, but I've always had my doubts. I've just had enough now and I am ready to speak out! The guy is totally out of his depth a this level and it's now embarrassing for us and for him His touch is a joke, his awareness non-existent, and unless Aguero gets back soon we have no chance of the Prem this season if we have to rely on him alone. He is now my fourth choice striker, and I think he would struggle to get in most Prem teams - enough is enough!!!!!

Motd. Alan Hansen on city's recent 'wobble' Chelsea beat us, we drew with Norwich, and BARCA HAMMERED US????

I was a little confused by Stoke's tactics after going behind. 20 minutes to save the game and they carry on defending.

We really won that match without breaking sweat and it was ideal for us to have one of our off days against such opposition.

It really was quite dull to watch. A few round us nearly gave themselves coronary attacks moaning at Dzeko. Still can't work out what went wrong with the tap in even after watching the GIF!
What a lethargic and pointless analysis of the game.

Hughes felt Stoke were unfairly prevented from testing Hart more often and said: "There were a couple of occasions where I thought - call it professional or cynical - we had good opportunities that were stopped because of my players getting taken out.

"I thought there was a situation - about three or four - when Stoke City players were taken out quite cynically and (that) stopped good situations.

Glad we showed some steel.

I think Hughes is onto something here you know. Our players did obstruct theirs on a couple of occasions. Now, if only there was some way of punishing this, say with some sort of move whereby the ball is placed dead and the aggrieved team is allowed to cross, pass or shoot this ball unopposed. Could call it a free-kick or something like that. I know it sounds stupid, but really, Hughes does have every right to be upset over this and we really need to implement a system that punishes professional and, above all, cynical fouls.

Now, hold onto your hats, we could even introduce a sort of card system to coincide with this punishment...

Happy to get the 3 points. What a shite and frustrating game.

City = Shite without Aguero

Well we won at least.

Dzeko needs to stop being so mentally weak. i dunno, if he has not developed a strong mentality by now will he ever ?

Anyway we won, Pelle will have a few words no doubt, onwards....

After playing half the match against a Barca with ten men Id'e have thought that Pellegrini would have made a few more changes against Stoke.

Dzekos Smile = rag

Oh really...
Dzeko smiles does he? I always thought he was grimacing from acute wind.

For what it's worth I thought today's match was reminiscent of many last season where we struggled to break down stubborn and resistant opposition. TBH, my heart sank when I saw the team sheet and Dzeko was paired with Negredo. In view of the majority opinion on that pairing, I think all that needs to be said has been. I saw a stat that suggested that Dzeko suffers less as a result of being paired with Negredo than Negredo does and if today doesn't prove that point, I don't know what will. When it really effects us is when Dzeko returns to his static worst as both our strikers are then negated.

Today was an ideal opportunity to see Negredo, Jovetic, Nasri and Silva start and I think this was an opportunity missed albeit we saw it briedly in the 2nd half which coincided with us turning our dominance into clear cut chances.

I was gutted when Jovetic had to go off but I believe the significant turning point for us was the removal of Negredo. I would have preferred to see Dzeko go, but at least with one striker being removed it meant Yaya could move further forward and it's this that resulted in our solitary goal.

We've had 2 massive matches in the space of 7 days which have taken their toll, but at least unlike Barca who also looked jaded tonight and lost 3-1, we got the victory. Pellegrini's substitutions turned a certain draw into a victory but he made life difficult for us in the first place by selecting Dzeko & Negredo to start which clearly doesn't work.

Anyway, we get a week off and hopefully it will give the players time to recuperate and for the walking wounded time to heal in time for Wembley. We shouldn't underestimate Sunderland and hopefully we won't have to endure seeing Dzeko and Negredo start again as its clearly obvious we have better and more effective options.

All said and done a win is a win and that's what counts at the business end of the season.
