With mancini being italian, you have to presume its all about shape / defence. he had a hard on preseason about the 3 at the back bollocks, ever since then we have looked shocking at the back

must have been watching different games mate

Must have been.. Their passing and movement was far superior and we were chasing shadows for most of it I thought..

Their passing was, but dominated us? do me favour....

Passing, determination and attitude was also things that Ajax had that we were lacking in the first half, too many times from goal kicks Hart had no options as we lacked any urgency or pace..

If it was a one off then it would be slightly more acceptable but it's been 4 games in a row now.

The other thing that hacked me off with us was that Ajax have scored two clinically executed corners against us. The ball is placed perfectly for De Jong to run onto. Yet when we take a corner all the players are static around the middle of the 6 yard box and you never know where the ball will end up.

Do we ever practice taking or defending corners?
Why ask us? I thought you've a source that dines at the top table.

Anyone else notice how dangerous we became when, in desperation, we started throwing long balls up?
While I have no faith in the long-ball game, at least it adds pace to our attack which gives our strikers a better chance.
If we could play more directly more often, (cut out the slow build-up) we'd do better.
(Excuse me if this has been covered earlier - I haven't read the whole thread.)
Honestly I think that's something the manager wants to address. He's tried to get a deep-lying passer who can set our forwards off on runs for the past two years. Should have dropped a fucking mint for De Rossi.

Or pulled out all the stops to get Stephen Ireland back.
Unfortunately that player also needs to defend.

Absolute rubbish. Ajax couldn't keep hold of the ball for more than a minute even though we had 2/3 forwards on the pitch.

City were below par considering how poor they were. If that was a Premiership game, we would have come back and knocked 5 or 6 past them. The Champions League seems to mess with our players heads and they don't do the normal things.

Were you at the match? We couldn't get it off them for large parts of the first half..

I might be wrong but didn't we score the most goals from corners last season

agree

we have too many "generous" players , grafter , fighter , call them as you like , that unfortunally lack class

to many ? who are they then ?

hart , zabaleta , barry , milner , garcia , clichy , richards , this people all are lovable guys and its a pain to say that they are not good enough , but it is just the truth.

and i dont even consider the pure squad players like sinclair rodwell kolo toure etc

Yeah, Hart and Zabaleta are absolute shite. If Mancini leaves City are you going to support another club?

Ajax were rubbish and would have been turned over by most Premiership teams. We were well below par. But your analysis is totally wrong. We expended a great amount of effort in the first 20 minutes trying to close the man on the ball down. There was plenty of determination and attitude. Too much if anything

We needed composure on the ball, and to play our normal game. instead we tried to knock them out in the first 20 mins. Good reaction to the Dortmund game where we were outfought, but there's no point if you don't do the basics at the same time such as defend corners.

Team has so much guts. They nearly came back again. What's lacking is not spirit but the feeling that the players and team belongs in the Champions League. They are much better player for player than Ajax. Their players are not Premiership standard, and I don't think one would get in our starting line up.
