City vs Bayern Munich Post match Thread

Been saying it for a long time now that Hart has to step down. Not blaming him for the defeat, but however poor we were tonight you simply cannot give an away side in Europe of their quality a gift of an opening goal like that which just killed us. It's almost every week now without fail that he messes up and costs us dear! Anybody got any idea why this is happening?

What a football lesson that was. Bayern's movement was simply brilliant pulling defenders and midfielders out of position, creating space and attacking it with relish. Fantastically strong, we were out muscled, out played and out thought. Extremely impressed with Bayern tonight who were fitter, faster, stronger and better technically.

As for us? Yaya couldn't get on the ball and when he did he was closed down and out muscled - something I find very odd writing given the size of the bugger. Dzeko was bullied all through the game and trudged off like the kid who's had his dinner money taken off him. Joe had a night to forget. Fernandinho's only mistake lead to their third. Clichy caught napping. Samir gave up at 3-0.

Positives - David returned and he was very good. Negredo's goal was excellent (although he should have scored with his header). Sergio ran his bollocks off for no service and few, if any, chances; I was glad he came off when he did (assuming it was to save him for Saturday).

One thing I will say - and I want to stress that I am behind Pellegrini all the way - but the team selection tonight was naive in the extreme. He was brought in to improve us in Europe, and in fairness we've just played a strong side that are champions of Europe, but I was amazed he set us up how he did. I fully expected he would have been a bit more conservative.

Disappointed we put in that display but full credit to Bayern who were superb. Only Dortmund have played better at the Etihad and we scrorped a draw against them! Credit to our fans showing some appreciation for Schweinsteiger and Robben too. Seemed as though there was a bit of a love-in at the end as well between both sets of fans with mutual applause.

Defeat is always hard to take, so as a City fan, I'm naturally gutted. As a football fan it was a pleasure to watch Bayern.

Are you fucking stupid ??? Fancy coming on here after that battering ... and finally someone who is talking sense !!
Too many people are always critical of blaming x,y and z,for defeats, but tonight I can honestly say that we were spanked, given a football lesson, call it what you will, but shit, what a performance that was from the Champions.
I`ve said it before, but sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and congratulate Bayern for that performance. Not only were they better, they were SUPERIOR in every department, irrespective of individual errors.
Well done to two of Europes finest wingers also.Fuck, I wish we had one or both of them in our team.

This is Silly. Nasri tackles as well as Milner.

Ok let's have a bet then! Ball in the center spot Nasri and Milner take ten steps back and see who pulls out of the tackle first! :-)
That is not the measure of who tackles better. Knowing how to play your position tactically is. I bet Milner tackles better than Kroos, Shweinsteiger, or Lahm too with his hustle. Yet their tactical and technical superiority would make all of Milner's hustle end up for nowt. It is not just about putting yourself about. That will work in the championship. At the highest level, technique and footballing intelligence profits you a lot more.

Agree with everything you have said. Bayern played us off the park. Now I know how it feels to be outclassed!! Great strike by Negredo and Silva looked sharp when he came on. Highlight as a City fan was holding my blue plastic sheet up before the game. We need a big performance against Everton! CTID

I don't usually reply on matchday threads, but after reading the first 13 or so pages of this... I cannot believe the following had not been mentioned : \Richards, and his eagerness to knock the ball into the net with his back from a corner!! Just head the bleeder!! Not fit, and should not have played! Navas, still not impressed, but still leaves me shouting Jesus!! every time he gives the ball away! Joe, forget the Head and Shoulders, and concentrate on positioning, still young, plenty of time, , Midfield, totally lacking tonight, Silva and Milner were good, but Robben and Ribery had their feet up by then.. Pellegrini should come good, £48 a ticket?? Germany have it right.. City fans home and away, the myth is we have very loyal and loud fans? For those who think throwing a few beers around and singing on the concourse at away games mean we have top fans, take time to watch the Bayern fans tonight.. Choreographed, yes, but totally, totally showed us up . We cannot match this home or away. For Bayern, read Dortmund, Poznan, Napoli etc. Separate issue, Heineken, pay all that money to sponsor the comp, and we can't even get a pint?? For the next round, we will save our £40 odd quid (x3) and get a few beers in, a few pies at less than £3,80, and sing out louder than we did tonight!!

Agree in part about the fans, Every premier league club has poor support compared to the clubs you mention, high ticket prices etc don't help, Also don't think tonight is a particularly apt time to slag our support as we had very little to shout about, Tickets were nearly 50 quid tonight which prices a lot of supporters out, with there seats taken up by so called part time supporters who turn up to take pictures instead of singing songs. Unfortunately that's just the way football is in this country now.

Agreed it was a footballing lesson from the best team in Europe, but we made it so easy for them, With the money spent on transfer fees and wages we should be competing with teams like Bayern, maybe not beating them, just playing with some pride, belief and tactics would be a start - see Celtic last night.

Twat!! Thought you was having a pop at me then :))

I don't ever enjoy seeing City lose obviously, but I actually really enjoyed tonight's game. The quality, the movement, the fitness and workrate, the physical strength, the passing, the pressing, the tempo............they are everything we should aspire to be.

Those who are talking about a lack of desire/passion - I don't think this had anything to do with it, I just think our players had no idea how to win the ball back from them and just ended up chasing shadows.

Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say we were beaten by a better team. I'm not even that convinced another man in midfield (4-5-1) would have made that much difference their passing was that good. It would have been nice to have seen it tried though (and not with just 10 mins left)

Right. You can all moan about individual players, but them tactics were shocking. It left everyone chasing shadows.
We all knew that control of midfield was the key to this game. So we hand it to them 6/7 to 2. Our outlet wide Navas and
the two up front are rendered useless because we can't get the football.

For Pellegrini to allow this to continue for 60/70 minutes and run the players into the ground is rather disconcerting.
For those saying it got better after 70 mins, yeah, because 2 of the subs were the midfielders that we'd been missing
for the previous 70 mins.

Anyway, I cant see Everton being as good as Bayern, because they are a bloody good side, we just made it a bit
easier for them.

Not slagging our support tonight, just asking for realisation from some of our fans that think we are the best in the world. . Plus, I think all post match threads should only be opened one hour after the game, to give people time to calm down. or the people that have actually been to the game, time to get home and post! Plus, I hate that "We never win at home and we never win at home " song! Always have, always will!!
