City vs Bayern Munich Post match Thread

What a football lesson that was. Bayern's movement was simply brilliant pulling defenders and midfielders out of position, creating space and attacking it with relish. Fantastically strong, we were out muscled, out played and out thought. Extremely impressed with Bayern tonight who were fitter, faster, stronger and better technically.

As for us? Yaya couldn't get on the ball and when he did he was closed down and out muscled - something I find very odd writing given the size of the bugger. Dzeko was bullied all through the game and trudged off like the kid who's had his dinner money taken off him. Joe had a night to forget. Fernandinho's only mistake lead to their third. Clichy caught napping. Samir gave up at 3-0.

Positives - David returned and he was very good. Negredo's goal was excellent (although he should have scored with his header). Sergio ran his bollocks off for no service and few, if any, chances; I was glad he came off when he did (assuming it was to save him for Saturday).

One thing I will say - and I want to stress that I am behind Pellegrini all the way - but the team selection tonight was naive in the extreme. He was brought in to improve us in Europe, and in fairness we've just played a strong side that are champions of Europe, but I was amazed he set us up how he did. I fully expected he would have been a bit more conservative.

Disappointed we put in that display but full credit to Bayern who were superb. Only Dortmund have played better at the Etihad and we scrorped a draw against them! Credit to our fans showing some appreciation for Schweinsteiger and Robben too. Seemed as though there was a bit of a love-in at the end as well between both sets of fans with mutual applause.

Defeat is always hard to take, so as a City fan, I'm naturally gutted. As a football fan it was a pleasure to watch Bayern.

Are you fucking stupid ??? Fancy coming on here after that battering ... and finally someone who is talking sense !!
Too many people are always critical of blaming x,y and z,for defeats, but tonight I can honestly say that we were spanked, given a football lesson, call it what you will, but shit, what a performance that was from the Champions.
I`ve said it before, but sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and congratulate Bayern for that performance. Not only were they better, they were SUPERIOR in every department, irrespective of individual errors.
Well done to two of Europes finest wingers also.Fuck, I wish we had one or both of them in our team.

Juts got home after pelting down the motorway so not much time to post. Really went out of my way to go to this game as I am ultra busy at work so very disappointed in how City performed tonight. Agree with the comments above and there is no shame in losing to what is currently the best club side around. However, even allowing for that and Pellegrini getting his team shape and selection wrong, City did not put enough effort in. I'm not saying that they didn't try but against a team like that, you have to go the extra mile. I also think the team needs to be braver and my concerns about the menatlity of the squad won't go away after that performance.

One thing is for sure: that wasn't the perfomance Pellegrini wanted.

Tonight's humiliating defeat lies squarely on Pelligrini's shoulders.

He decided to play 4-4-2, allowing our midfield to get continously overrun virtually all game.

He decided to play bring in two two full-backs who haven't played for a while, which created uncertainty for our centre halves and whoever was being the defensive midfielder.

We neither attacked as a team nor defended as a team, we seemed to be caught between two stools until he finally woke up and changed to 4-2-3-1, but it was too late the damage had already been done.

This idiot manager has turned a team of league champions into bungling fools in less than 10 matches.

We weren't the league champions you clown.

Most of the players in tonight's team had won the league two season's ago, and were runners up last season, so they can't be that crap you KNOBHEAD!

bayern are class, that goes without saying, whats a fuckin joke is it took 70min for pelle to realise we were being fucked allover in midfield? thats a major worry if he cant spot something so blatantly obv, hart shit again tonight he needs dropping big time, also dzeko's lack of fight and effort is an insult to us all

It's what you would expect from the best side in Europe in terms of what they could control but again we were lacking in every department.

We didn't look like we wanted to be out their on our home patch of all places.

We don't belong in the big stage against any of the big teams at this juncture.

The ease with which they were able to cut through us was embarrassing.

A lot of that has to do with our lack of work rate , application and poor awareness which has dogged our season so far especially away from home.

The cracks at the back are alarming and show no signs of improving.

It's looking good at present for MP and the Spanish duo.

They are The Champions of Europe, agreed, but let's not hide behind that because at the end of the day most of the players in our team would get in most top sides in Europe yet we were made to look like a pub team last night.

Mentality and tactics completely wrong from us.

Bayern were different class, but not at a class to make us look like they were playing a conference side, we were a disgrace.

I thought the Dormund home and away game couldn't be the lowest of lows in regards to CL performances, even the Ajax games, but this game tops the lot.

As peer mnager "We didn't have enough time with the ball at our feet.

"I think that we were playing in a different way. They had possession of the ball and I don't think we can make the change to fight that.

"I always think a lot of things before and after the match. It was a possibility, but I thought this was the best way to play.

Wht did he imply by that

I know it was the European champions who gave us a football lesson tonight but for me a line has been drawn with our players.

I never slag them off in the real world, stand up for them as much as I can and in here rarely talk about specific City staff, as to be honest I can't be arsed getting involved in arguments that never seem to end (Dzeko, Balo, Johnson, etc threads).

However I cannot stand back and watch some of the individual performances tonight without saying something. Yeah with the squad at our disposal and a different formation we could have at least got a draw and that's the managers responsibility when they're holding the inquest into this game.

The 11 players on the other hand are responsible for what happens once the game starts, regardless of formations or opposition. The sum is greater than the parts and any team can carry a bad individual performance every now and then. Unfortunately the higher your ambitions are the less deadweight can be carried. Against Bayern more than half the team put in substandard performances and when this happens you're never going to win in any competitive game let alone a UCL game.

The players concerned are mentioned in their own topics but for me the full backs were shocking with Micah Richards having one of the worst games I can ever remember him having. Yeah he was up against a formidable duo who rip most right backs to shreds but it's no excuse to not make a fist of it and give it your all. To be out of position, drifting into the CBs space for most the game, jogging back from corners with no care in the world and making unforced errors (we were in blue and them in red Micah) is unforgivable.

I love the lad but he fucked up his chance tonight and should be fucked off back to the bench to be used in less important games.

I'm going to stop now as there's another half dozen I can vent my spleen about but it's gone 2am and I need sleep. I picked Micah as I'm so disappointed personally in him. As I said I don't normally get on players backs but when the bad performances outweigh the good then something has to be said, even if it's not the most positive.

Rant over.

Is that from Pellegrini?

Looks to me like he is saying he didn't think he had the players to to combat the strength of their midfield so kept our game in the way he thought was best for us.

I have really liked Pellegrini so far, but he really should be experienced enough to know we needed to forfeit a striker and put an extra midfielder on.

To be honest, going into the game I thought the way we set up was going to be good enoug, I would just have changed Negredo for Edin, but it was clear to see 5 minutes in we needed more legs in midfield.
