City Vs Borussia Dortmund (CL) Post Match Thread

I've just watched the first half again and we actually outplayed Dortmund by quite a bit. Strikers should have done better and put one or two in, but we were easily the better team. But from when Dortmund got a couple of chances late in the first half, they started getting hold of the ball, finding gaps, out working us, and getting dangerous chances to score. It was like they had figured us out all of a sudden and we couldn't do anything about it.

The thing that's concerning is that they pressed us high in the second half and didn't give us any chance to settle on the ball, the same way Madrid did. And we didn't have a plan b to counter this. Yes we tried a different formation and changed some players, but we couldn't find a way to deal with them, and it was frustration that led to the mistakes.

We need to press teams harder when they have the ball, move the ball faster when we have the ball, and be able to change the tempo when we need to. We did much better at this last year, but it's missing this year. And we need to learn fast or we wil be. Out of the Champions league again.

Dortmund have learned and evolved from their disappointed CL campaign lat year but we don't really appear to have sadly. If we do go out then we should use Europa for more experience again because if it turns out we're inferior to both Real and Dortmund then teams like Atletico and Napoli (again) might be closer to our current European level (which is entirely different to our Premier League level).

Worse still sides like Everton , Spurs and a couple of others are more than capable of doing this and at our own patch so we need to sort this out before it becomes endemic.

Hart won't have these sort of games too often.

Sides that have work rate and some skill to match and are prepared to press us will have good opportunities to score against us irrespective of what their club name is.

There is a reason why BVB did that to you guys yesterday. They are a top quality side that are criminally underrated by most (lack of tv exposure) if you have watched any german football they have practically shat on every team for the last 3 years and made byrne there woman. This season there league form hasent been spot on because they are focusing on the champs league resting key players in the league games for last night. and yet they hammered the opposition 5-0. i really do rate them one of the top 5 teams in Europe easily. They could easily get to a champs league final and people will think who are these guys and where have they come from.

Against Real Madrid, Madrid was pretty bad against counter-attacks and had a huge problem dealing with Yaya, that we managed to exploit. However, switching to a 3-5-2 just gave Marcelo the extra ability to overload the right flank.

Against BVB, their defence was particularly vulnerable against MOVEMENT. They were slow on the turn and could be badly exposed to a good offside break. Also, towards the end of the second half, it was shown that they are particularly weak when Aguero lured one of them out to the flanks. We didn't exploit that enough. And it was an absolute shocker we switched to the 3-men defence when it was a 0-0.

Jury? 3-5-2 stinks.

Joe Hart was obviously frustrated after switching to the 3-men defence.

So from the Dortmund game i can deduce that :-

1. Komps is way way way off form.
2. Our defence is shite.
3. Rodwell is fairly shite.
4. Garcia is fairly shite.
5. Yaya ran round as if injured from start of 1st half, unsure as to what he has to do.
6. Our 'new tactics' we're using do NOT work for us.
7. All new signings need taking out the team and back to what we know/do best.
8. Playing 2 strikers hasn't worked so far, and still isn't.
9. RM has alot to learn.
10. All the knee jerk morons on here/twitter etc need to STFU. Mancini has delivered 2 trophys to our wonderful club. 2nd yr in CL an yet again we get the hardest group, give him support and he'll do fine eventually.

They havent learned anything, last season they were extremely unlucky. They were the better side against Arsenal at home and was atleast as good as them away and was very unlucky. They completely outplayed Marseille twice and lost both games. The only team that was better than them was olympiacos. Their luck has just even itself out this season. They are a top side and Reus for Kagawa has even made them better as he has alot more goals in him

We created plenty of chances but their keeper like Joe played very well, and Silva missed the best chance of the night. You can't miss chances like that.

AS for going to 3 at the back. We wanted to win it, and it was designed to give us the width of Kolarov. Absolute shocker is some "City fans" attempts to turn this on to the manager.
