City Vs Liverpool Post Match Discussion Thread

I don't understand all the panic. When was the last time Pool played you guys and parked the bus to protect a 1-0 lead? There is no doubt you missed Kompany, Silva and Ya Ya Toure but even without them you are a much better team than Pool. I don't see why Savic is getting so much stick. He is very young and still has to adapt to Premiership football but there is no doubt he has potential. I also don't understand why some of you put down Mancini. Although I am a Chelsea fan I regard Mancini as the best tactical manager in the Premiership. So why all the fuss! Surely the Carling Cup is not a top priority of yours. You should be proud the fact that you are top of the League. I'll be more than surprised if you don't come out on top at the end of the season.

Not sure if Mancini is better than Ferguson.
Easy tiger.. you'll have the blazer crew after you!

Don't get too depressed - it was all pretty predictable - as bad as we were, we totally bossed the 2nd half, and we lost the match due to a stupid penalty.
1-0 isn't a disaster and Liverpool have been pretty rubbish at home. Hopefully, Silva will be back and we will pose more of a threat - perhaps we'll sign somebody, or have a fit Balo available.
We can still get through, and if not, we can improve massively for the premier league run in when we're back to full strength and blow everyone out of the water from Feb onwards.
Biggest concern is that Johnson, Savic and Kolarov are clearly inadequate and barely first team material when our stars aren't available to give them time and space to shine.

Yep sums it up nicely except for adding that Nasri needs to do better

We didn't "boss" the second half. We were allowed to play in front of Liverpool's defence. Which is what 99% of the teams who come to the Etihad allow us to do. The difference between tonight and the rest of the season is we didn't create a fucking thing, and, we didn't have a single player behind the "attacking" players with the ability to cause a problem and be the extra man.

Yeah we lost. So what? We weren't at our best today but there are so many factors that caused it: we've lost leadership in Kompany, composure in Yaya and spark in Silva. Once we have that back we'll see the team that played between August - November. Let's not start panicking now after a couple of bad results. Liverpool and United are good teams - not as good as us based on a full season with a full first eleven, mind you - so there's no disgrace in losing to them.

Savic's inexperience did show, but it's inexperience and nothing else, so that can be trained out of him. Balotelli was unfit - I do have a bone to pick with Mancini about his choices tonight - and a team without a spine is never going to be spectacular. 1-0 can be turned around if we get a couple of players back to full fitness before the game at Anfield, so all is not lost.

However, if I see Adam Johnson start a game for City, or Aleksandar Kolarov in a City shirt at all ever again, I'm going to lose my temper. I don't know what Mancini saw in either of the two of them when he brought them in. Sure, Kolarov has a pretty hard shot and he's pretty good at free-kicks, but what else does he have? Oh, that's right, nothing. No pace, no positional awareness, no accuracy on crosses and the worst thing is that his famous left foot has become a gimmick and an excuse.

I'm not happy that Glen Johnson wasn't sent off, but why are people comparing it to Vincent Kompany's? It was a decision made by a different referee, on a different day, in a different atmosphere at a different time, and is therefore irrelevant. I can see why people would feel agrieved, but Foy made his decision and that's final.

Overall, we were good enough for a draw. 0-0, 1-1, 2-2, whatever, we were good enough for it. But Liverpool defended resolutely and kept us at bay in the second half when they knew all they had to was defend the lead we gave to them. Onwards and sideways from here, starting at Wigan.

First game of the season I have gone away disappointed with our performance.... first half we were very poor and once Liverpool got the lead it was gonna be a long night. We seem to have lost our zip/spark at the moment...for a team that could not stop scoring to a team that didn't look at all likely tonight is a bit of a worry.
I am seeing a bit of a trend last few outings...we are finding it harder to open teams up and everyone is parking the fucking bus..we need a player who is prepared to run at opposition and commit them to open up space, invite challenges...to slow and laborious tonight...frustrating to watch at times....been a bad week for me so maybe I am seeing half empty instead of half full for a change...was hoping for a lift from the blues tonight but hey ho.

It's not panic stations yet as our losses are in the cups but two home losses in a row after none in a year cannot be overlooked as normal. We have to refocus and dare I say it open the check book as Mancini wants as there are some deficiencies in the squad such as the lack of even one high quality winger at the richest club in the world.

city awful tonight but liverpool missed their chance in my opinion, they should have taken advantage of our weakened squad instead of being so negative, silva and balotelli fit for the return leg and an early goal and we are laughing
this is my feeling exactly they missed a trick tonight, 1st half we were their for the taking, we are long overdue a win there.

What shocked me about the scousers was the Blackburn style approach. 9 behind the ball then hoof it to Carroll. They have better players than that so why?
no they haven't got better players than that, Suarez is the 1 that makes them tick and he is absent

Hurrah just what I thought - as with the scum on Sunday Liverpool did not take advantage in the 1st half - we only lost 1-0 playing badly - bloody hell come on guys - sick of all this negativity - think 2nd half Sunday took it out of the players tonight
