City vs Swans Post Match Thread

Just managed to watch it now and immediately it was clear to see we played with much more energy and a higher tempo. Also big credit to the crowd who came through loud and clear.

Oh, and welcome back fernandinho, we have missed you.

Great to get the deserve win to kick start what will be a crucial week in our season. If we can somehow overcome Bayern and go away to Soton and win, then the season is right back on track again with our wobble out of the way nice and early.

Martín Demichelis, Man Of The Match... he was outstanding
agree 100%

agreed. thought nasri played well but martin was brilliant. yaya deserves a mention too.

Agreed on all counts. But I would also add Fernandinho who looked so much better and more confident. Much more like last year.

yep thats fair enough too. in fact i dont think anyone had a bad game, not yet in champion mode but most were more or less on their game. could do with a little more from zab still and of course jesus. it will come.

2 big positives for me yesterday, firstly we won a game we'd gone behind in, and secondly we didn't need Aguero's goals to win.

We were still well short of our best, but there were some good signs all round, after a piss poor start, our passing notably improved, we weren't dominated in midfield as we have been recently either.

However, we were still too slow in build up play, too often going backwards when a forward pass was on, and defensively we still look poor at times, their goals was a joke, in how simply they avoided our defenders.

I liked how our forward players rotated in in out of position, such as Sergio coming out wide left, and Nasri going into the centre, this fluidity is something we've been missing, and it helped us not miss David Silva for once.

Still a lot of work required, for instance on corners, where we were woeful again, and crossing in general was poor, apart from Navas pass for Jovetic's goal, why he can do that now and again, and yet put in so many other poor crosses I don't understand.

All in all, better, but room for improvement, and we really have to start putting more of our chances away, though their keeper had a good game, we're still not hitting the target enough, or when we do, we're hitting the middle of the goal.

Hart 6 - didn't have a lot to do
Zab 7 - looked better, and got forward well
Kompany 6 - needs to stop jumping in from behind
Demichelis 8 - very good game
Clichy 7 - one of his best games in a while (though he was good in the derby)
Navas 5 - great pass for the goal, but otherwise pretty poor
Fernandhino 7 - far better than he's been
Yaya 7 - played well
Nasri 8 - best game for us in ages
Aguero 6 - not at his best, trying too hard at times, at least he didn't need to carry us for once
Jovetic 7 - worked tirelessly, good finish, a few too many flicks for me though

The other good thing about the game was the crowd. We got behind the team when we were losing and when we were level. That hasn't happened for a while

The MOTD analysis of the game was pretty poor. I wanted to see the two challenges on Aguero. And the comments about City's defence were a bit OTT on a day when our back 4 was rarely troubled. OK we could have conceded a late goal, but what was more telling was that Swansea created very little overall. Maybe that was because they just sat back for most of the game, but on this occasion I think MOTD invented a frailty that did not exist.

Another 3 points.

As many have said, tempo was much better yesterday and the signs of a few players fining their form bodes very well.

reality check for a few needed though with regards our defence. This is the premier league and other teams do have some very good players. Just because they sometimes have the audacity to play well and create a chance or two or indeed score, it does not mean we are shit or shambolic!

They could have snatched an undeserved draw but that's football - United beat Arsenal yesterday despite being completely battered. It happens, but overall the teams who create more chances finish at the top.
