we are supposed to be league retainers yet we can't even get the league cup . i have mates who support other teams and to be honest i'm embarrassed i have to explain to these guys tomorrow some sort of excuse . but this is getting to persistent now what sort of team thinks it's okay to play shite .
Don't need an excuse. We played poorly and desered to get hanmered.

Excuses are for wimps anyway.

I think now is the time to revert to the old 4-4-1-1 (2010/11) formation with Yaya behind one striker. We need to steady the ship and get the lads confidence back with some solid performances.

Do we have the personnel to play 4411?

I only see one winger in the squad,and he's a plan B........

We seem very uncreative, I don't really understand it. Every attempted through ball is read by a defender so quite simply we appear to have been found out and have become predictable. When Sinclair came on he was given the ball and went on a storming run down the flank that felt so refreshing because we simply went for the direct approach and it nearly paid off.

funniest post of the night, legendary wumming take a bow sir

Yes, you can say " it was only the league cup , don't give a shit" or " it was the second string players" but the first choice players have barely been any better either . There has to be a decision made as to where the buck stops and Khaldoon & the sheik will be asking the same questions as we are.

City`s move of the match for me that, LC.Superb ball over from him, onto Balos head and a great save from Given.

If this does not provide a wake up call, then nothing will. Hopefully, this will provide a visual and visceral response and we pick up on the SIMPLE THINGS that need to be addressed, such as pressuring the opponent when they have the ball, playing a SOLID BACK FOUR behind a midfield that is not simply let run amok on offence without any defensive responsibilities.

At times against Arsenal, we had three "midfielders" in the Arsenal half jogging back while they were breaking at pace and putting the back 3-4-5 under intense pressure. We ESCAPED with a point on Sunday and it is not going to be good enough from now until May.

Fulham away is a good test of whether we are even interested in LEARNING HOW TO FIGHT FOR THE BALL and to PRESSURE A TEAM HIGHER UP THE FIELD
.

It is all well and good to say crap on SSN after the match, or to point out that you see the problem, but the coaching staff gets paid to FIX THE PROBLEM.

............................Hart
Zaba..........Kompany.....Nastasic........Clichy
..............Garcia..................Barry
Milner...............Toure.................Silva
................Aguero

Panitlimon
Lescott
Kolarov
Rodwell/Sinclair
Tevez
Balotelli
Dzeko
(Yes, three strikers on the bench, but Tevez can play in the Yaya role in the team and push him back)

And I would be ready to replace ANY player who does not put in a shift in the first half, setting the tone for the rest of the season and the reason WHY WE HAVE A BIG SQUAD!

Let's not forget, he played the EXACT SAME TEAM FOR THE LAST SIX GAMES AT THE END OF THE LAST SEASON.....BECAUSE IT WAS HIS BEST TEAM.

So, Bobby Manc, WHAT IS YOUR BEST TEAM FROM THOSE AVAILABLE? PLAY IT!!!

Oh, and it is NOT against the law to take Yaya Toure OFF the field every now and then if he appears incapable of defending from his midfield position! Just sayin'!

POST OF THE THREAD AND SUMS UP WHAT i THINK HAS BEEN THE CENTRAL PROBLEM ALL SEASON

Would just add this.
Went tonight. Got piss wet through and witnessed one of the worst City performances since the Forset debacle a couple of seasons back.
I actually felt I had been conned out ofthe money by players who really didn't seem to give a fook (Sinclair excepted)

I don't really understand that post. We created enough chances against Arsenal and tonight the team was totally changed and we missed Yaya.Nasri and Silva who are our most creative players so it was entirely predictable that we'd find it difficult to open up a Premiership team - we still did it enough times to win the game. The problem is at the other end, and again that was understandable tonight. Forced changes

Hart, Richards, Maicon, Zabaleta, Kompany, Clichy, Yaya Toure, Silva, Nasri, Javi Garcia and Aguero were all missing tonight. We were poor, but with those names missing could you really expect anything more?

Calm down.
Yes. I expected a win against a Villa team who although have won this season are shit.

Telling me Tevez, Dzeko, Sinclair, Milner, Barry, Lescott and Balotelli aren't good enough to beat a team which is built with quite a few players from the youth team from what I can see.

Tonight was embarrassing.

I am going to move on and hope they can work solely on it this week and please perform anywhere near how we played last season.
Tevez and Lescott were the only fully-fit regular starters in the team tonight and we lost one of them after an hour. We had Razak in the holding role - big mistake, Milner out wide - big mistake, Kolo Toure up against Villa's best player (Gabby) - big mistake, and Suarez providing creativity - big mistake. We lacked skill, direction and assertiveness because of these things and lost the game.

Tevez was the only man that turned up tonight. Back to the drawing board.

But Mancini think Milner is a winger and not a CM.
