Is that how desperate they have gotten? That would have been a Europa League or early round League Cup game from several years ago unless it's just been Photoshopped.

Pull the same trick and say this was Old Scaffold on their league winning evening...

ZABA once again awesome .......Player of the season for moi

Panty till the end of the season......

Agreed Zaba has to be the player of the season.

Played very well today , unsurprisingly lost his cool at the O'Brien tackle , because that must have hurt !

Could easily have been pulled up for a penalty though , by another referee , on another day ..... but he got away with it , and some you win , some you lose.

The sort of performance that early December had the glass half full brigade proclaiming winning ugly was the sign of champions. Well it wasn't. We dominate piss poor teams and still only scrape the points. We have to put these chances away. It's all about tempo and untill we quicken ours i don't see this pattern changing. Our defence with the exception of clichy played very well( he is vastly superior than kolorov so not much can be done there). Our midfield with the exception of yaya don't contribute near enough in the line of goals. Our strikers need to convert more of the chances we create. We need to sign a quality keeper to knock the complacency out of Joe. Pants is a likeable chap but real opposition for Joe he never will be! Thankfully the mistake came late enough for it not to matter!
"Pants is a likeable chap" WTF are you on about?. In my view he's actually better than Joe principally because he is much stronger in the air than Joe. I agree we need a new keeper, but sell Joe for about 10 -15M and get Bergovitch or Mignolet or Schwartzer( on a free) . In the latter case the money could be used to fund the purchase of a Cavani etc.

Isn't it the Villa game in the 1st round of the League Cup and weren't the T3's closed?
From the website:
"The incessant Manchester rain was partly to blame for the crowd of 28,015, but the early rounds of the League Cup have always struggled to attract decent numbers for several years now"

This confirms the wastefulness Mancini has been lamenting all season.
I don't think its because our players aren't good enough. What this suggests is a lack of confidence and loss of form. Something seems wrong somewhere and its psychological, I hope it can be resolved soon.
Having said that, I'd have taken 2-1 before this match started.
Good match, special mention to Nasri for his turn around this season.

Like pulling hens teeth today, job done but hard work!!

I thought that the game was pretty typical of the season - some great passing and possession at times but the finishing/chances being converted was what let us down. We did enough to get the points but it was harder work than it needed to be.

My main gripe was that IMHO the atmosphere was woeful. No real sining except for the efforts of the South Stand contingent. Seemed like there was no enthusiasm or passion today.

Watching the game again, one thing that is apparent is how static we are as a team when in possession. There is very little movement for the player with the ball so he has few options as to who to pass to and this makes it a lot easier to defend against. We need to improve our running off the ball to open up the opposition.
