Been in touch with Mike at maya and that's where will be heading. Mike gave us some useful info for our first trip to HK.
Hi can you share this info with us?
Certainly can. Mike's e-mail:
mikehill992@hotmail.com
I asked contacted Mike after seeing the article on the MCFC o/s. I emailed to ask him for assistance as it our first time to HK. Mike responded quickly with the following useful info:
HK is very easy to get around -public transport is excellent. The MTR (tube) will take us to most places we want to visit, it is very cheap, clean, safe and ALWAYS runs on time (which is every 1 minute in rush hour). He advised us to purchase an Octopus Card when we arrive which you can load with as little as $100HK. This card can be used on the MTR, buses and ferries and is VERY convenient. You can also use it at many shops and services including 7-eleven, Watsons (pharmacist) , supermarkets, Peak Tram etc, etc. When you leave HK you can easily surrender the card and they will refund any remaining balance.
The airport is very efficient and easy to navigate. To get to our hotel we can either take a taxi which will cost you about $350 or alternatively take the airport express train which departs for the city from the airport arrivals area. The train costs about $90 one-way to Central. Once at Central we would take a short taxi ride to our hotel which will cost about $20.
Taxis are very cheap, clean and well air-conditioned, although beware, not all drivers speak English so he advised we print out the name of our hotel in Chinese, if possible as most things in HK have two names, an English name and a Chinese name and they are not the same, our hotel which is the Cosmopolitan Hotel has no meaning in Chinese.
HK is a very safe city so it's good to walk around, although beware it is very hot and humid in July. Some attractions that we may want to consider are:
•The Peak. Can be accessed via the Peak Tram or taxi
•Big Buddha
•Stanley Markets
•Junk trip on the harbour
•Jumbo Floating Restaurant at Aberdeen
•Harbour laser light show every evening at 8pm
•Wanchai night life (Maya is in Wanchai)
•Hollywood Road
Hope this useful for you.
