SUBS FROM ... TAYLOR ZAB MICAH DUNNE BRIDGE SWP RSC ELANO BOJINOV JOHNSON BELLAMY PETROV TROCOWSKI WEISS

Squad of 25 good enough to compete for top 4

with the players already brought in we still need:

an out and out forward.... (eto'o or fabiano are the only players that fit the bill of what we ant and that are realistically gettable)
a centre half........terry is very unlikely in my opinion, lescott would be a great addition
tevz if we get him will be a very good addition

the most important of all is the centre forward position......this is the icing on the cake but also the most inmportant....if we go with what we have now it will not be good enough to push top 6

after that it is argueable that we could need cover for both left and right wings...however i think we have enough flexibility in the squad to cover left hand side attack......and prob with tevez we have the cover for the right....as well as Weiss depending on whether MH thinks he is ready to make the step up

I do not care what the rags say to me and I advise you try to take the same stance. Years of supporting City have given me a very thick skin but I will always be an optimist. I have just done a quick calculation based on the form of our team post Given, De Jong, Bridge, Bellamy joing in January. Our form for the last 18 games was 28 points in 18 games which would put us on 59 for the season and 7th spot just 3 points from Villa in 6th. With the addition of Barry and RSC are you saying we're not going to be much better? I believe we are and I couldn't give a flying f%$K what my local rags say.

yes we are better and in the signing of barry we have weakend one of our main rivals (villa)....

the difference that RSC makes????????........Im on the fence on that one....he does add some much needed aerial threat and strength.....but will he get the goals needed to push us up the league??????????? im not so sure

apart from sorting the defence out obviously, i really do feel that if we have any chance of top 6 we need an out and out striker that we have not had for a good few seasons now.

I think the transfer window even if it ended now should be viewed as a huge success.

Roque Santa Cruz, although a lot are yet to be convinced by this transfer, offers us something we've lacked for a long time. Probably as long ago as when Niall Quinn was towering above defenders in a City shirt. His ability to hold up the ball and his footballing intelligence should, and i'm going to go as far as to say will, give us a completely different option up front. RSC can boss defences, as shown when Blackburn played United last season.

Gareth Barry may well end up being the most important signing we make this summer. He's a proven premiership player with bags of talent. An England international who is respected by Fabio Capello, one of the greatest managers of his generation. He's pretty much a box to box midfielder with a strong left side and has played CM, LW and LB in his career all with a high degree of success. Barry's inclusion in the first team also renders Robinho's poor defensive ability irrelevant as he will be the one who is giving Bridge support on that left side, which will probably allow Bridge the opportunity to show us why he was one of the brightest young players in English football 6-7 years ago.

And if/when we sign Tevez that would just be the icing on the cake.

--------------------------------Given--------------------------------
Richards------------Onuoha---------------Kompany-------------Bridge Dunne providing good cover for Onuoha/Kompany.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------de Jong-----------------------------Barry-------------- Barry pulling left when defending if needed.
-------------------------------Ireland-------------------------------- Ireland playing his most comfortable game.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
--Tevez----------------------------------------------------Robinho-- SWP playing instead of Tevez if he doesn't sign.
-----------------------------Santa Cruz-----------------------------

That team is better than any team outside the top 4 and offers room for manoeuvre should it be needed.

Hopefully with the better quality in the squad and the better flexibility with the players we now possess we will never run into that ridiculous problem we had last season when facing Stoke where we played until something like the 60th minute with two defensive midfielders against 10 men.

As a footnote too, can I just point out how much of a difference just a couple of major signings can make. If we were to get Eto'o or someone else of similar if not equal ability, and if we were to get Lescott or Terry that would make a huge difference to our team. RSC, Barry, Terry, Tevez, Eto'o would be a major haul and any 2 of those could make a major difference.

How well would the Bore 4 have done without just 2 key players all season. Ushited without Rooney and Tanny for the whole season, Liverpool without Torres and Gerrard for the whole season, Chealsea without Anelka and Lampard for the whole season? Would any of them be assured of a place in the top 4 or at least in the top 3? I don't think so. These sets of 2 players are vital to their function. Look how ushited looked when they lost first Ferdinand then Vidic, or at the start of the season without Ronaldo and Rooney off form. Did they look like champions? 2 top class players makes one hell of a difference and so it would be for us.

That same defence will give the same opposition the same hope and we will leak goals the same as we did last season.

Minimum 2 defenders, hopefully both CB needed, then your side is looking more balanced. And if Tevez is a no show, then 6th will be a bridge to far with your team as it is.
