Clattenburg, the FA & Adebayor - proof that the system is bent

It's simple, he is either getting paid to fuck us over or he has a real, deep loathing of all things Man City because he has been doing the same thing ever since he was in charge of the 6-1 against the rags. His record of refereeing our matches since that day now reads Won 6 Drew 5 Lost 6 and our record against top 6 sides has become 3 draws and 6 defeats and NO victories. If the opposition gives him the chance to have us over he takes it with both hands as was shown in his rabid enthusiasm to award what was an almost impossible incident to judge with such speed.

Obviously the FA is bent as fuck also as he is allowed to do this without inquiry or questioning and is still seen as one their Elite refs. Time and again he has refereed us with a definite bias towards the other side and time and again he is awarded another important match a couple of months down the line.

Being beaten fair and square is something we must all get used to in life and as City fans I know we can, but constantly having to play 12 or sometimes 13 men at home and away most weeks really starts to piss you off. I pray for the day one of the dirty corrupt pricks that swan around the FA and the Referee's Association fucks up and the cat is out of the bag and then they'll all scurry for cover knowing what dirty little rats they are.
This is a post I put on Bluemoon about The FA and Twattenberg after he stitched us up in the Tottenham game at home with the Sterling incident, and now how I hope that this new leak turns into a flood because apart from a couple of contrary clowns on this thread the corrupt nature of the game in this country is there for all to see.

For me, the Media and Referee's (FA) both helped to make the 2012 & 2014 PL campaigns the most exciting in recent history due to their hellbent determination to have the Rags win their 20th title in Sky's 20th season in 2012 and also help Liverpool win the first title for years on the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough. We were the best team on both occassions by a clear margin but had to win each title on the last day of the season due to constant helping hands and blind eyes of two organisation well and truly in each others pockets. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the corrupt era of the premier league which has tarnished the game to thousands of people who are having their love for the game strangled by corporate big wigs who have a vested interests in certain outcomes, but have now become lazy and transparent in the way this is achieved.

Unlike our two title wins this should not be brushed under the carpet and a full enquiry should be made into the way the FA go about the 'business' so the become the organisation they should be rather than the underhand, corporate lapdogs and downright bent bastards they are. I'm not gonna hold my breath on this though.

Watching Sunday Supplement and Goals on Sunday this morning and it seems the general view is Marriner may not have seen the "elbow" in real time; hence the grey area as to what he did or did not see.

Having been at the game and re-watching it when we got home, it is clear Marriner deliberately overlooked a lot of fouls - more on the part of WHU than us. On this basis it's feasible he deemed it "a coming together" to use twattenburg parlance.

However, following the witch hunt instigated by Quinn & co on sly TV and the ensuing trial by media, we all knew that the report would say he hadn't seen it.

Whether or not Sergio was guilty of violent intent is a moot point. The bigger issue is that sly TV are selective in who they choose to direct their witch hunts at. As other's have already said, if he was wearing a scum shirt (apologies for any offence that thought may cause - I will self-flagellate as my penance), the incident would have been justified or more likely, completely overlooked/ignored.

Who appointed Riley? Is Gill anywhere near?
Riley's appointment was interesting. He was appointed in June 2009 replacing Keith Hackett. Hackett hadn't resigned (although he was in his 60's) but was pushed aside to make way for Riley and apparently wasn't at all happy. Clearly he has no truck with Riley and 18 months ago said:

Hackett, who was succeeded at Professional Game Match Officials Limited by Mike Riley in 2010, wants Mike Jones, Andre Marriner, Chris Foy and Lee Mason stood down at the end of the season. He also called for Riley to be sacked and for referee Lee Probert to be removed from his position should he fail a fitness test. Writing on his 'You are the ref' blog, Hackett has called for wide-ranging action to change PGMOL, with the first course of action to 'dispense with the services of the current PGMOL General Manager'.

Good point & well made. I think the gist of this thread is that either the rules need changing so they can be applied to all incidents or the referees need automating. I want the latter, because no matter how good a human referee is, he will always make mistakes or errors of judgement as it's human nature.

I'll take the mistakes Jacob, good and bad, because they're part and parcel of the game, all that I ask is that they're 'honest' mistakes. Personally I'd consign retrospective bans and appeals to the scrap heap and let the referees decision be final. The only exception would be for incidents that go beyond the maximum 3 game ban.

That doesn't solve the problem though, in fact it probably makes it worse as you're handing all of the power to the ref so if there really is an agenda it would be enforced first hand. Retrospective action also needs to be available for incidents that really aren't seen by the ref like if a defender punches the opposing striker at the opposite end of the pitch to where play is happening. Grey areas are the problem as they're open to interpretation. The hawk-eye goalline system is fantastic, because that decision is instant and final and there can be no arguments. Unfortunately, the majority of other refereeing decisions can be objective.

I think we'll win the league this season regardless of any unfavourable treatment or refereeing mishaps. Pep is the orchestrator of a winning machine and no Dean, Clattenburg or Riley can stand in his way.

I've just ordered the Halsey book from the library so will get to see what he says but someone has said that there is a story in it that Anthony Taylor declared an allegiance to the rags when he was appointed but someone at PGMOL told him to change it to Alty.

That video of the manure and ars - the only expression that comes to mind is one involving a nine bob note.

I certainly have not forgotten them getting some decisions but what about us losing to Sunderland, Everton, Swansea and throwing away a 2 goal lead at Fulham had nothing to do with anything?

The Fulham game where there was a foul on Dzeko leading to one of their goals?
The Sunderland game where Ki? Was offside?
The Everton game where there were some shocking decisions?

The thing is, why do they even feel the need to do all this secretive underhand nonsense. Most of us are able to accept that refereeing is an incredibly tough job and with the sheer pace of the game and things happening all over the place the ref is going to miss or fail to appreciate the severity of an incident from time to time. If they think an incident requires an additional punishment after watching it on Tv from several angles and in slow motion just say so. I'm sure it has been done before, wasn't the Ben Thatcher / Pedro Mendes clash dealt with with a yellow card at the time and then a ban rightly dished out afterwards?

There were two good penalty shouts in that Everton game that we didn't get. Plus there was the Chelsea game where we were denied a clear penalty that would have put us 2-0 up.
