Claudio Echeverri/On Loan at River Plate

Last night River travelled to Chile for a Copa Libs leg 1 match: Colo Colo 1-1 River. CE started and went 63m. 36 yo Mauricio Isla and 37 yo Arturo Vidal's mohawk play for Colo Colo. Echeverri started fine but after a few haaaard tackles he turned really soft and tentative. You can kinda see that in the viddy below - it was a rugged, manly affair. For positives, he ran well and kept very disciplined shape in the road game plan. 23 touches and 50% passing.

River @Boca on saturday.

Thanks for the updates. So what do you think, will he be ready to be a part of the squad in January or does he need a loan in Europe somewhere first?

If the foreign roster spot rules allow, I think it would be great for his dev to train with Pep all Spring. A loan with actual playing time would work ... to Garcia Pimienta @Sevilla? By January it will have been a quite hectic last 18 months for the kid. A peaceful ball bag Spring with the big squad, like Max Perrone had for instance, might be just fine. So many variables exist - Pep's future, City's form, the hearing ...

I'd say overall I'm down on him after being blown away by his U17 WC performance. He's still got kid in him. He can get soft, loose and his simulation skillz suck ... which is embarrassing at times. But he's got some understandable growing pains coming at him from all directions - I bet even his boot size has swelled this year. River sucks, too - there's never a simple square/return pass in MF for him, a squad chasing Hollywood balls. He seems more consistent under Gallardo than Demu at least.

Kid has skillz, tho - vision and weight of pass, first touch and turn on a dime in traffic, dead ball delivery, strong shot from distance, nice switches and diagonals. He's cheerful and seems well-liked by his teammates. Think he'll be better with better players.

2nd leg, Copa Libs Quarters, River 1-0 [2-1 agg], CE did not play a minute. Gallardo went with vets, and when he needed some energy at minute 78 he chose the younger Mastantuono over Echeverri. This is what happens when you turn into Bambi after a coupla hard tackles in leg 1. Mastan even got up into Vidal's grill during a late handbags moment - almost 20 years younger. Hope CE notices and learns. Claudio was also skipped over for Mastantuono in the prestigious Boca match Saturday, Boca 0-1 River. Big league home match coming Sunday against Talleres.

Important league road match tonight ends Talleres 1-0 River. Echeverri came on at 66m - 28 touches, 80% passing. Totally frantic for River chasing the equalizer as time wound down. CE played fine. No River player had a higher rating at sofascore: 7.4, but he missed 2 golden chances - one shot blocked the other ballooned over the bar - so twitter is crapping all over him tonight. He played very intense and even had a nice slide tackle, so maybe Bambi learned a lesson. Should be a decent highlight clip if anybody bothers to make one, eyes peeled.
