Echeverri just turned 18 so he is able to move abroad. I'm not entirely sure why City would leave him there for a full year after the signing when 6 months makes far more sense -- especially if the plan is to loan him out right away. Get him in during the summer, better for both City and Girona to have him there sooner than later.

City are paying more than his release clause already apparently.. so it sounds like if it's a negotiating tactic, it's a strange one. By seemingly all accounts, River fans aren't happy with him as is so it feels like a recipe for disaster to leave him there for another full year.

I am guessing it is due to a desire to win the Libertadores so I suppose City could shorten the time he stays if River get knocked out early.
