LOL. Dempsey signing would not "blow" up the city image. Pmsl if you think that. Very few Americans give enough of a toss to start supporting city let alone because of dempsey. He's not as big of a name as Donovan. I love clint and met him about 5 years ago, very good honest hard working player but no point in you all signing him.

Depends on who you are trying to attract. The Americans who pay attention to football view Dempsey as a bigger name. The Americans who see soccer on every 4 years know Donovan more. Donovan = blanket marketing, Dempsey = target marketing.
Still not worth 100k though.

I was at the Canada v US game on the weekend and both Dempsey and Donavon were useless - they were completely invisible for most of the game. Canada isn't exactly a top team so if they can't do well with Canada's defence, then they're in no way good enough for the Champions!
So, you're basing your opinion on how good Dempsey is, on one friendly rather than on a whole season where he scored 23 goals from midfield (for a fairly average Fulham team)? Have a look at how many he's scored in the previous 5 seasons. He's decent but there is a reason he'll soon be pushing 30 and has been at Fulham for 6 years.

In the seasons in which he scored 7 he played less than 28 games.
And was it 3 in the one before that ? Nothing against the lad as I do think he's a decent player, just not what we need IMO......

I wouldn't use what a player did 5 years ago as a positive or a negative. Total nonfactor for me.

Fair enough mate. Just pointing out that last season was a bit of an exception for him in terms of goals scored.
He's a decent player but I don't imagine him to be on our list of transfer targets personally. He isn't good enough for the direction in which this club is heading.
We are dining at the top table now and our mentality needs to reflect this development. He is on par with Charlie Adam and Scott Parker in terms of talent in my opinion.
I suppose I would accept him as a back-up option but anything above that shouldn't even be considered. If we need that sort of player then we'll purchase one of superior quality to Dempsey.

This was the first time they were on the pitch at the same time under Klinsmann as well (besides a brief sub appearance by Dempsey in the Brazil friendly).
Also in regards to his Fulham goalscoring record, I would say half of those starts/appearances are as a midfielder as well. True an attacking mid, but not as a forward. So not too bad considering he only plays up forward when they have no one else available or if they push him up in need of a goal.
And sorry, my 100k comment was in $$$. So £60-70k
