i believe clichy is to blame for the last goal.
Yep - we got Clichy'd. He lets it bounce and nods it to Vinnie or he lets it bounce, chest traps it and loops it back to Joe. Two easy choices to take all the danger out of the moment. Inexplicably he instead veers away leaving a baffled VK in a do-or-die situation. VK died. Miserably. Tell you what tho' - VK knows about Clichy now - and without costing us in a points in the table.

My God. 100% Kompany's ball. 100% Kompany's mistake.

nobody can say it any better

come on you know he's right

Roberto Mancini regretted City’s loss of control as they saw a two-goal lead overturned in the FA Community Shield.
Goals from Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko put the Blues ahead before half time, but Smalling and Nani struck early on after the break to level the score.

It was Nani who struck the killer blow deep into stoppage time, leading the Manager to ruefully reflect on how City let it slip.

He said, “I’m disappointed because in the dressing room at 45 minutes we were two goals up, but when you’re ahead like that you need to control the game.

“The big positive for me was the last 20 minutes of the first half, but in the second half United pushed back at us because they were down and we lost control of the game. You cannot allow that to happen.”

“As I said in the press conference before the game, United have a top squad and were the better team. But that does not mean we cannot win the title, we need to improve and complete our team, and find our best form.

“We need to understand why we lost this game, we played well and went two-nil up, but we need to have a strong mentality. When we play a strong side like United or when we are in the Champions League, we need to continue to keep playing football. We can’t go like we did in the second half today. It’s important that we understand this. We’re disappointed because we wanted to win this trophy, so we have to understand why we lost and improve.”

Sergio Aguero was on the bench but was not one of City’s three substitutes to appear, with Mancini feeling the striker is still short of time in training

“Aguero is not ready to play, he maybe could have played in the last 10 minutes but it was difficult because we needed tall players for set-pieces. Sergio needs to train more, he only finished three weeks ago and he needs to both train and recover. He does not need a pre-season like the other players but he needs to find his form.”

The reason VK was in a position to make a mistake is because Clichy conjured up a dangerous situation out of thin air.

Everyone just calm down. The way I see it, we played one of our worst games for awhile, didnt have the best line up, and still almost won. (against one of the best teams in the league) :)

We had more of a first XI/experienced team out there than they did, Tevez and Aguero were the only ones missing, and Tevez may not even be here next season.

They had no Hernandez, Valencia, Fletcher and no Vidic, Ferdinand, Carrick for the second half (they had all gone off when we were up 2-0!) And Berbatov only came on in the 80th odd minute?

They had players like Cleverley, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Anderson, Welbeck out there..

We can hardly say we had a weakened team out there against the best in the league.

As much as it pains me to say we have to admit today we got taught a lesson in winning mentality, take it, use it to our advantage, move on and prepare for next week when the real stuff starts.

What does Mancini mean in that last bit that aguero needs to find his form??? He looked good in the copa?? Have I mis read that comment?

Ey look - it's ultimately a TEAM game. Our team lost to their team - no need to call for heads.

I do blame Mancini for ONE thing though - that first sub should have been made waaaay earlier. He needed to sense the pressure from United at 2:0, and bring in another midfielder for Balo asap.

He did it AFTER they tied the game....which at that point was not only useless but also counter-productive IMO.

No player came out with any credit today, we handed the rags the win, had we stepped it up the rags would have it a hiding.
For me the game changed when we reverted to the old negative tactics, I bet he had nothing to do with it though, at the start of the second half we had a free kick half way in to their half, at 2-0 we should gone for the throat, we decided from 3/4th the pitch to knock it back to Joe, I knew the second we did that the rags would draw strength from it and score.joe does he usual fuck up when distributing it's comes straight back and utd score. After that we were dire.

Now if we learn off it then all well and good, put it this way I think bob will see to it the players know that was not acceptable .

I agree with this too, Joe's distribution is dreadful at times. We should be paying the ball forward from the keeper, not booting it up and hoping. I recall Sven putting a stop to this.

The first opportunity to - row Z, game over - the ball was put in Clichy's lap.
