Indeed.

I posted the exact England date of death numbers for the past 3 weeks a couple of pages back (at 5 days anyway so they are only up a but from add ons since).

That number has fallen in 3 weeks from nrearly 800 a day to high 400s. So adding on the other nations we are certainly nowhere near 1000 per day.

These reported numbers can be deceptive as EWednesday always has a large catch up of back dated deaths.

Those 664 England hospital deaths are from 43 different dates - not yesterday.
I haven't read back, but those are the numbers for the whole UK according to gov.uk, assuming there won't be too many add ons for dates before Feb 5th. I see that they are still adding some on from back in Jan, but the 29th is the last day above 1000, with any other dates needing around 150 to extend that date.

Regarding the proportion of deaths with say the over 80s.
It appears to be reducing but am I right in saying that the daily announced death toll includes many from weeks or even months ago? If that is the case then it really isn’t real time information as many of those deaths are from before vaccinations even began. I assume the government will be seeing the actual numbers of daily deaths and the proportion of those in the vaccinated groups within them. You would hope that the over 80s group in particular is falling much faster than what has been posted on here today.
Correct.
Also the % of over 80's deaths has been reducing steadily before vaccination started!
Some cause for initial optimism but far too early to draw firm conclusions.

Boris cannot yet see data that the vaccine is working after looking hard.

It is early days and I agree that 5 days ago it was less clear but that's the problem with using 5 day old data as often happens here.

You are days behind the curve waiting and making sure.

I do see why they do that before declaring anything like this - caution is necessary with them and I have the luxury of it not mattering if I misread too early as it is so tempting to do - but I think the England hospital death over 80 percentages in recent days are quite strong indicators at the moment that the corner has been turned.
