The young have sacrificed their freedoms to protect the lives of vulnerable people.

Vulnerable people who have been vaccinated should then have to sacrifice their freedoms in return to allow for everyone else to to get their jab.

No way should they be allowed to travel if the young aren’t, just because they’ve been vaccinated before them.

Why? how does that make it better for the young. They still can't travel. Besides who decides. If the governement open up travel from May, and other countries put rules in place. It's not for our government to then impose restrictions on those that have had vaccines, been told they can travel and told by Greece or Spain or whereever they can go.

What is the upshot of this?

Cases were falling globally a lot. Now they are flattening or going up in most places? Is that the right order of interpreting those tweets as it fits what happened here in January into February though I would not say it is yet obviously slowing just falling less quickly as there is less far to fall - so natural.

And if global patterning then regardless of if strict measures are in place or if or how far into any vaccination programme countries might be?

Is that the essence of those tweets and the WHO declaration?

If so what is going on here? There must be some scientists who think they know.

This virus has never behaved the same way everywhere up to now. It has to a degree depended on seasons, outbreak, control methods used, social dynamics and geography or social demographics etc. Why would that shift?

Yeah, your take from these graphs/tweets is the same as mine. They were in rapid decline almost globally but recently there's been some flatlining and uptick in N.America and elsewhere Europe again.

It'll be interesting to see if the UK can remain exempt from a general uptick throughout Europe, in which case it would on the face of it, be further positive news for the vaccines which UK are a bit ahead on currently. In turn, if other and perhaps more vaccine skeptical nations see this take place it could spell better news for overall uptake. That's my optimistic vision of this, how realistic it'll be remains to be seen!

Let’s not blow things out of proportion - it’s not like we’re going to see flightloads of 70-80+ year olds heading off to an all inclusive for Zante for a fortnight

I’m 20s so well down the vaccine queue, but confident all first doses will be done by the summer, perhaps even all second doses by autumn. Meanwhile those able to resume their life, by all means crack on. Very few things about the pandemic have been ‘fair’.

Let’s hope that everyone has been offered the vaccine by then, otherwise it’s massively unfair on those who are not classed as vulnerable. All those who are low risk and have sacrificed a year to protect the vulnerable shouldn’t be punished for not yet being elegible for the vaccine.

Absolutely agree. This vaccine passport initiative should only be implemented once everybody has been offered the vaccine.

If you were in the 2nd year of Uni when this began, you’ve effectively had to pay all the tuition fees, whilst having your uni experience cut in half. You’ve not been able to go on group holidays, you’ve not been able to go out on the piss, you’ve not been able to shag around.. you’ve sacrificed 18 months of the best time of your lives to protect vulnerable people.

So now it’s fair for Diabetic Dave, who’s been jabbed up because he’s unhealthy and in his 60’s, to head off on holiday in May whilst the people who have sacrificed so much have to wait for 3 more months when hopefully they’ll have had their first jab, whilst still having to wait for their 2nd before they can do anything?

13 deaths - was 30 last week

236 cases - was 374 last week

Positivity 4.1% - was 5.7% last week

Weekly Pop 76 - was 79 yesterday and 86 last week.

These are really good numbers today.

Note how slowly the Pop Score is falling now but only because it is so low so it is just harder to go lower.

76 for a national weekly Pop is amazing tbh. Nowhere in GM has been near there since September.

Trafford - best in GM right now - is at 134 - double the above- in the GM numbers I posted last night.

Wouldn't that be up to Greece. I won't be done by May but don't see that as a reason to begrudge anyone that has been done going. Seems a bit petty.

It isn't petty.

Many have been furloughed or have lost their jobs and stayed at home to protect those who would be first in the queue for a vaccine. A bit toss for those vaccinated to enjoy liberties ahead of those who've been impacted the hardest.

Just implement when everybody has been offered the vacc.

My son is in his 2nd year at uni. He's had all those things you mention. How ,if I have had my vaccine end of May, does me not going on a holiday if it's available change any of what he's sacrificed. He would have no objection to me going away, not that I will be, just because he cant for a few more months. Life isn't always fair, levelling down doesn't make things better for those you level down to.

Thanks. Not really been up to speed with how it's going over there but just had a look at the figures and it's astonishing how seriously impressive they were during the first wave compared to how it's unravelled in the second and third waves. Is there any particular reason why it's currently so bad despite you being in lockdown? Are certain things open that ought not to be or an increase in non-compliance amongst the public perhaps?

Not really. In theory it is a pretty strict lockdown. Schools/bars/restaurants are closed, we have a 9PM curfew, only essential shops are open and masks must be worn (no exceptions). I assume people must be breaking the rules but I haven't seen any of it.
