Talk of kids losing out 40k’s worth of salary based on no research that’s worth a grain of salt. The kids who worked hard before lockdown; the kids who have supportive parents, guess what? They’ll still be the kids who do fine. And those with boneidle parents will struggle. And the pandemic hasn’t changed that one iota. The rush to cram in any so called lost learning is the action of an idiot. It will take time, and we’ll get there, but it needs to be done gradually and evidence based. In a class of 30 there will be a kid who’s first and a kid who’s thirtieth. ‘Twas ever thus and ever shall be.
That was my view, but I also respect what @Healdplace said "we cannot let our children's education pay for this pandemic".

I feel relieved my 2 lads finished full-time study in 2020 before the pandemic hit.

Scotland data:

8 deaths - was 18 last week

639 cases - was 525 last week

3.4% positivity - was 3.1% last week

479 patients - down 33 in day - was 898 last week

38 ventilated icu - same as yesterday - was 74 last week

The cases may be up as is the positivity but the hospital data is not slowing at all in its downtrack.

England hospital deaths 118 - with 19 from NW. Last week was 185 and 18 - so big week to week fall again. About a third. Which has been around the numbers every day week to week.

Recall this is NOT weekend data but from Friday. It looks all but certain next two days will now be below 100. Possibly we might never go above 100 a day ever again in these numbers after today.

Though that is a little optimistic. But looks likely to happen pretty soon given the falls.

Most of the reports I was reading about it yesterday emphasised "1 batch" with a few mentioning it had been recalled.

"The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is also reviewing the relationship between the AstraZeneca/Oxford Covid-19 vaccine and blood clots, after Austria and six other EU countries suspended the use of a certain batch of AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine, known as batch ABV5300, after blood clot concerns."

Although I cant find one mentioning recall now. to many articles doing the rounds. If there was a concern about the vaccine its self they would have stopped all batches rather than just the one batch. they are certainly working on the assuption the 1 batch has an issue rather than the vaccine.
Let's just remember that Covid-19 most often kills via blood clots. Some where between 60% and 75% I believe.
This is most likely politics and AZ not delivering quantities expected.
The UK expected such things so ordered 3.5 times the number of doses than required. Contrast with the EU who only provisioned about 1.5 times the number required.

The UK are the City of this season - battered by early losses and being badly compared to the 'best' so fighting back via the vaccines by planning ahead and reaping the reward and grudging respect. Though with grumbling efforts to tarnish the achievement.

And the EU is Liverpool that is for sure. Starting well, compared v City as examples of how to do it, have a setback, fall apart, arrogance takes root and disarray results and so far behind it will be next season before they can hope to catch up.

No surprise with the shambolic vaccine roll out , apparently they are looking at June before they get anywhere near the levels of the US or Uk for daily vaccines administered . Just can’t see how foreign holidays will be going ahead this year , certainly not until September/October.
Eastern Europe is the worst - Czechia and Hungary et al.
Western Europe not so bad although Italy is creeping up again.
Probably poor lockdown control is the main reason at the minute but the poor vaccine roll out means it will take longer to bring the numbers down.
