They say 60% of the cases are a new variant and I don't know whether that is vaccine resistant or not.

77 cases of this one in the UK. Up from 0 until the last week. Anxious to see how this spreads here and amongst vaccinated/unvaccinated sectors of the community. Hopefully AZ/Pfizer got it covered!

That’ll help the share price...
"So I think for planning purposes, planning purposes only, I think we should expect that we may have to boost.”

I do like this quote though. That they are preparing for the worst is reassuring given that in the context of those words it isn't actually inevitable.

That's worrying.
Is the Oxford vaccine effective against the South African strain of Covid?
A small study of 2,000 people in South Africa has shown that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine offers minimal protection against mild cases of the South African variant, but the vaccine is still likely to reduce severe cases and deaths from the South African strain.

The study, which was based people of an average age of 31, shows that protection may be as low as 10%. The research wasn’t able to determine whether it protects against serious illness or hospitalisation, because this group of people were at low risk of serious illness. Other research suggests that the vaccine is still likely to reduce severe cases and deaths from the South African strain. More research is needed in this area.

Oxford University is working on adapting the vaccine to ensure that it protects against this variant, as well as other strains. They have said a ‘booster’ jab could be available by autumn 2021.

Thanks bud. Hopefully the vaccines will be more than 10% effective for the vulnerable. And you finished with a positive.... I might be able to sleep tonight after all.

I worry more about the control we have given to governments rather than the variants and our inability to combat them. As other posters have said, we’re seeing similar mutations occurring independent of each other which suggests a limited capacity for mutation with this virus. I’m certain boosters will be able to deal with this fairly easily.

I just worry about long term the power the people have given to government, world wide. I predict (hope) for a summer of riots and disobedience. The public won’t stand for these measures for 10 deaths a day throughout summer.

The ‘oh well, lockdown 4 thanks to people going on to Brighton beach’ people can get fucked. We’ve had enough of these losers dragging everyone else down to their level; the first time in their life they don’t feel like outsiders from general society because they do nowt and go nowhere. Fuck them. These are dangerous people and they need to be ignored.

These weirdos need to understand that their argument of never releasing lockdown so that we don’t end up in lockdown again is not the answer.

Is that the lockdown that ended on Monday with the rest of the significant restrictions set to go in a month?
