The 1 In 50 is a scary stat but it’s still not “on the doorstep” in a lot of cases, and a lot of people are still really ignorant. I’m not convinced that the death toll is what will scare people, I think it’ll take the NHS collapsing before the majority start abiding.The death toll will start scaring people again and they'll take it seriously again.
IMO Right now there's a lot of "this isn't as bad as March, and I was fine then".
When it eclipses the first wave and we are setting records every day then people will be scared into being sensible.
I know of a family friend GP who got his mother in law in on day 1. She is in her early 80s so hasn’t jumped the queue as such. That's assuming the mortality rate doesn't shoot up as a result of us being unable to treat people because we have no more capacity.If we are at 1000 now it is hard to imagine the peak will be <2000 a day.

I listened to a lady paramedic on the radio. She would have been happy if the public just stopped abusing them as they go about their work - wear a mask and keep their distance. Not much to ask you would think but seemingly not so for many.I'm not so happy about the clapping coming back, would seem more apt to have a minutes silence every week.
