I know you've probably said elsewhere but are they percentages of the whole population or of adults? If it's the whole population, what percentage would cover all adults?

Testing is going to have a huge impact on this data, we test nearly 16x more than the US does so we can't be surprised if our figures appear 16x more worse... The positivity rate shows that certainly in the US it's far worse there.

The same applies to Europe, France is the testing leader in the EU but we test nearly 6x more than France does. So France might have less cases but it doesn't mean that they are in a different situation.

The major worry for any of these countries is for those with lower vaccination rates. They could see a situation where hospitalisations/deaths increase above ours whilst their cases are lower, the same thing has happened in India although the difference there is many deaths will be going unreported.
Not as big as you might imagine. For every 100 self tests issued, the results of just 15 are reported.

No offence, This is the thread for data and discussion of Covid. if you find it depressing, read a different thread. theres one in politics for the politics chat, there's another for the vaccines and another for the conspiracy chat.

this one is the main one for data and science chat. its exactly what this thread is for.

Healdplace's data has been 2nd to
If you want me to stop posting I will be very happy to stop doing it, This is very time consuming and I do not do it for fun.

Nor do I phrase it to look bad. I tell it like it is. And that will change day to day as this is a pandemic which sadly cares nothing about feelings.~

But I try to make my posts balanced on what the data says not on what me or anyone else might want them to say.

I will post it here or wherever the Mods want me to post or not at all if that is the view of the majority posting. And will not be sorry the day I have to sto.
No I'll stop reading it the thread, other posters like reading it or find them interesting - that's fair enough,
All my point is that is in generally (and not specific to this forum) is that I think the press / tv need to move away from the figures now. We don't have daily figures for car accidents, flu, cancer published each and every day so why is this narrative continuing with coronavirus? I realise we are still learning about the virus but sometimes people get sucked in & addicted to these things (like me) and panic when looking at stats.

Either just don't be tempted to open this topic or set our (brilliant) resident statistician Healdplace to ignore.
I am not a statistician or an expert. I defer to those on here who are. I just happen to have the time to collate and post the numbers. It is not anything remotely clever,

But thank you anyway, And by all means anyone depressed by the posts set to ignore. I will not be remotely offended,

Total % of people aged 18 and over. I imagine that will change once they start to vaccinate younger ages routinely. Assuming they do.

About 21% of the population in England are aged under 18, If you want to factor an approximate whole population number. Deduct about a fifth of the number posted daily to get it.

Though one of the mathematicians on here will explain if there is a better or more exact way,

Are self-tests even reported in the testing data?

I was under the impression that a COVID case can only confirmed as a COVID case by PCR. If you test positive in a self-test you are then told to get a PCR test to confirm it?

Please continue to post your data in this thread. Many of us find it incredibly informative. I think the onus should be on those who find it depressing to avoid the thread.

On the situation in hospitals from CEo of hospital trust.

Short version: Busy for multiple reasons, COVID (cases & staff isolating) rising one extra pressure of several. Long covid also a concern.

Keep posting pal, it's a useful insight.

The main reason I post in here and have for over a year is because I found the media biased towards their individual agendas. I came here as I was suggested to do because of posts from someone doing that here. HIs posts were just the numbers and what I wanted. No spin,

Unfortunately he was driven off here amidst the first wave and never returned afaik (unless he changed username).

So I just carried the data posting here on in his absence as I was looking it up anyway after he vanished.

I will always go with what I am asked to do by the thread. I certainly will not post when it is no longer necessary. A day that cannot come soon enough for me like everyone else.
