GM Weekly Pop Data after today:~

Borough / Pop Today / 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

As ever with Pop going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.

Wigan 806 / 605 / UP 201 Testing positive 12.3 %

Oldham 776 / 694 / UP 82 Testing positive 13.0%

Salford 725 / 570 / UP 155 Testing positive 12.5%

Tameside 697 / 530 / UP 167 Testing positive 10.9%

Rochdale 681 / 657 / UP 24 Testing positive 12.8 %

Bury 601 / 457 / UP 144 Testing positive 12.0%

Stockport 590 / 453 / UP 147 Testing positive 9.7%

Manchester 561 / 529 / UP 32 Testing positive 13.0%

Trafford 542 / 532 / UP 10 Testing positive 9.8%

Bolton 518 / 371 / UP 147 Testing positive 12.9%

Wigan on its own now in the 800s,

Bolton still rising in the 500s but still the best for now.

Stockport has had a few good days and fell below 600 and Bury.

Stockport up by 69 to 9720 - better for once than Trafford up 77 - to reach 9843 . So Stockport's lead goes back up by 8 to 123.

Trafford a few days from exiting the 9000 club and looks like Stockport will now be last borough standing there.

For two or three more days after that at least!

Bolton up 70 to 12, 887

Manchester up 62 - to enter the 13 K at 13, 056. club as GMs first inhabitant tomorrow after just avoiding it today with a good score.

Rochdale up 96 onto 12, 793.

But Oldham up 93 -to reach 13, 000 exactly on the same day as Manchester.

Salford though crash into the ton up on 103 to go onto 12, 514.

Bury up 77 - to enter the 12K club to 12, 033.

So a busy day with 3 boroughs going up into a new 1000 range in one day,

Tameside also were a ton up today by exactly 100 up to 10, 867.

But Wigan avoided doing so up just 96 to 12, 293.

There are now 5 GM boroughs in the 12K club with Manchester and Oldham in the 13, 000 Oldham EXACTLY 13,000.

Just the three lower with Tameside in the 10 K but a couple of days from the 11 K.

And Trafford and Stockport clinging onto being in the sub five figure 9K club but only for a few more days in both cases. By this time next week there will be none.

‘Tearing the pants out of it’ so to speak. Sometimes wonder if that’s what the authorities actually want, but I do fear there could be many cases, particularly in London, where many remain unvaccinated. Is there also not a danger that the more of it there is floating about in concentrated areas, the more vaccinated people are likely to contract it as well? Anxious weeks ahead.
The vulnerable have been offered the jab. Why should the rest of society remain in restrictions because they refused to have a jab? Sorry they have to isolate now and ideally have the jabs.

The vulnerable also includes people who have been vaccinated, though, so while I agree that it would be better to have as many vaccinated as possible, we need to remember that letting it rip will have dire consequences for those who have done everything asked of them.

Thanks for the reply, if this is the case, why are we not allowed in ?

Most countries in the world won't let us, or anyone, in just yet.

Canada officially open their borders in early September but it remains to be seen just how open they will be.

America have just pushed the UK up a level on their risk chart thing, so don't expect them to allow us to travel there for leisure anytime soon, possibly not for the rest of the year.

Stockport also the most on second doses - 67.5% - versus Manchester's low of 44.4%

Yeah I get that, but in the short and medium term it's not great IF things are waning so quickly. The author of the thread goes on to say that someone vaccinated in January is 3x more likely to have symptomatic infection than someone in May.

That may be entirely normal and expected, it's not my strong point, but as it amplifies the requirement for boosters one wonders where and when they're going to come from and how global distribution of boosters are going to be developed and supplied when we have so many developing countries and such like not even able to get first jabs in.
Pfizer just signed a major deal today with South Africa for production and distribution for beginning of next year..J&J already setup there and rolling

Europe are setting up satellite production sites all over the place now (Porto next year for here) think we will be in a much stronger position going forward with boosters and global roll out.

EU do not want to get caught wittier pants down again after the previous fiasco.

And what do these vulnerable people do in a regular flu season?

He's really angry. France is not the only big European country where uptake has been low. They've sorted out their supply, but many people are seeing the second wave die off and are very complacent. Nowhere more than France. But Macron is livid.. They've just got their hospitalisation numbers right down this month, and straight away they are facing Delta.

As for 'having won the the race', we had 4k hospital admissions last week, which would seem to be twice the rest of the EU combined. I understand we're turning these around much quicker now but I largely expect the same of Europe going forward.

One question I have, is how well targetted the vaccination plans are. It bothers me a great deal that we have masses of Urban areas where uptake is below 50%. It would seem much more important to get these people vaccinated than the guys out in the sticks. I don't know how the rest of Europe is fairing in that regard, but it will play a part going forward.

After being a big useless floppy bollock since the day he got in power, apart from the fleeting couple of minutes he falsely played the hard man of brexit negotiations (I’m a remain voter btw) Macron has finally shown some conviction.

I hope it works and I totally stand by his message. If I were a Frenchmen I’d vote for him based on that statement he made today alone.
