The most relevant data we should be being fed is how many hospital admissions there have been against the number of positive cases reported, then compare the death figures in the same way. We can then review historic data and make legitimate comparisons instead of constantly flagging up a meaningless number of cases of which the majority are probably asymptomatic.

I cannot believe the gullibility and naivety of the British public.

All this pinging and its harmful consequences is the creation and legacy solely of a man who should be arrested and charged with corporate manslaughter.

Full GM details

Total cases 1623 - DOWN 635 on Yesterday - when the whole NW was DOWN by 1428

Slightly over par on 44% of the fall but a very good result and still well under 40% share

Wk to wk DOWN 1345 when the NW is DOWN by 3084.

Pretty similar result

BOROUGH / CASES TODAY / V YESTERDAY / V LAST WEEK

BOLTON 144 / DOWN 33 / DOWN 91

BURY 78 / DOWN 65 / DOWN 96

MANCHESTER 312 / DOWN 120 / DOWN 217

OLDHAM 157 / DOWN 77 / DOWN 184

ROCHDALE 166 / DOWN 26 / DOWN 112

SALFORD 182 / DOWN 45 / DOWN 127

STOCKPORT 183 / DOWN 58 / DOWN 76

TAMESIDE 144 / DOWN 37 / DOWN 150

TRAFFORD 99 / DOWN 73 / DOWN 91

WIGAN 184 / DOWN 101 / DOWN 201

Two boroughs under 100 - first in a while - and only Manchester above the 100s and it well down.

Every single borough down day to day and week to week is a first in a long time.

Even Stockport had an OK day though not quite up there with some utterly gigantic falls such as by Manchester and Wigan.

But you cannot spin this any way other than a far better day for GM.

Whenever I read or hear of positives regarding coming out of this shitstorm, I only need to read these pages to temper any optimism that I may mistakenly have had...

Greater Manchester

Weekly total cases:-

Bury 1001, Trafford 1158 , Rochdale 1335, Bolton 1367, Tameside 1411, Oldham 1580, Stockport 1654 , Salford 1703, Wigan 2249, Manchester 2854

Some huge falls today. Bury only just missed going back under 1000. Manchester did go below 3000. And Wigan well down too, Stockport's recent run and less big falls today saw it rise up this table to a position well above where it usually is.

Agreed. Number of cases now is really meaningless. The only issue is how many cases actually feed into hospital admissions and then of them how many had been vaccinated/double vaccinated. It should all be about keeping those admissions down. People get vaccinated!

Cases will rise and fall depending on the weather and big events that take place, ongoing.

I reckon there’ll be a drop in the next few weeks because people are out and about more due to the good weather, after the rise during the Euros. Then we’ll see it go up once the Prem starts up again and people are packing into public transport to get there, then another rise when the weather starts to get worse into the Autumn.
There will be a drop off due to schools being off I reckon.

GM Weekly Pop Data after today:~

Borough / Pop Today / 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

Oldham 666 / 734 / DOWN 68 Testing positive 13.1%

Bolton 476 / 407 / UP 69 Testing positive 12.9%

Very good day for everyone even Stockport, though less good than the rest,

Four of the boroughs now FALLING week to week abd the huge 100/200 weekly rises wiped out.

Every single borough down today for the first time in weeks.

Moreover BOTH Oldham and Manchester joined Trafford and Rochdale in doing enough today to start that FALL week to week in their Pop Scores we need to see for all.

The start - hopefully - of the big turnaround.

Ironically ITV announced on the news 2 days ago - from 5 day old data - that Wigan's Pop Score was in the 800s - on the day it fell out of there - and today it fell so much that by the time they catch up it will likely not even be in the 700s.

This is why I never use the 5 day old data. It can make you miss important changes in any direction for several potentially vital days.

Stockport up by 62. well down on yesterday, to 9865 - bit again well beaten by Trafford up 55 - to reach 9970 . So Stockport's lead drops by to 105.

Trafford's excellent turnabout in past days delayed its entry into the 10K club until tomorrow and barring a complete disaster by Stockport tomorrow it will now be the last borough standing there.

For at most a couple of days.

By Monday GM will be 5 figures only,

Bolton up 50 to 12, 999 - niftily JUST avoiding the 13 K club for a day taking its Pop Score back below 500 too.

Manchester up 56 - to 13, 190

Rochdale up 63 onto 12, 931.

But Oldham up 66 - its lowest rise in some time to reach 13, 165.

Salford up 70 to go onto 12, 672.

Bury up just 41 - lowest daily rise in GM in some time - to 12, 149 .

Tameside up by 63 today to join the 11K club on 11, 010

Wigan much better than of late up just 56 - below Stockport - to 12, 436.
