WALES DATA

OH DEARIE ME - NO NEED FOR A PLAN B EH?

13 deaths - was 12 last week

4240 cases - was 2635 last week (new one day record)

14.1% positivity - was 10.6% last week

588 patients - was 541 last week

52 ventilated - was 51 last week

Do you have an age breakdown? Other than the cases not sure there is anything to be alarmed as there, certainly not shouting ‘oh dearie me’ anyway. I know cases come first and all that, but if it’s driven by kids and the schools testing, then it’s all part of the plan isn’t it?

It is around 45% under 19 everywhere right now as I have said in a few posts where the data is available. Though it is starting to creep up in older ages too lately. A sign that the third booster is really in need of speeding up. As are the deaths. The vast majority of the deaths are in the over 60s stlll and probably the rising hospital numbers too.

But oh dearie me is very relevant when it jumps THAT much in one go. Cases are less important. But major leaps upward in them will soon create trouble as we head into winter if they keep on happening.

Hopefully they will not but they need pointing out and watching.

SCOTLAND DATA

NOT TOO GOOD HERE EITHER SADLY

32 deaths - was 29 last week

2345 cases - was 2639 last week

7.4% positivty - was 7.0% last week - positivity up but cases down and deaths up

917 patients - UP 27 on yesterday - was 908 last week

58 ventilated icu - up 7 on yesterday - was 50 last week

THE HOSPITAL DATA - JUST LIKE THE ENGLAND DATA OVER RECENT DAYS - IS NOW GOING UPWARDS AGAIN.

Be interesting to see when schools break up next week and testing drops.

8582 weekly cases - was 8850 yesterday & 8996 last week

55 CARE HOME OUTBREAKS - WAS 60 YESTERDAY - WAS 67 LAST WEEK - THIS IS LOOKING HOPEFUL

HERE IS THE AGE RANGE MAP OF THE LAST 7 DAYS 8582 CASES IN NORTHERN IRELAND. THE OTHER NATIONS ARE MUCH THE SAME - DOWN A LITTLE ON 42% UNDER 19 NOW. WAS NEARER 48% A WEEK OR TWO AGO. BUT THE OLDER AGES ARE NOT RISING MUCH. THE BIGGEST RISE IS IN THE MIDDLE AND PRSUMABLY THE YOUNGER ONES WIDER FAMILIES CATCHING IT BY CONTACT.

THE FACT THAT MORE WOMEN ARE TESTING POSITIVE IN THAT MIDDLE GROUP IS LIKELY BECAUSE IF KIDS ARE OFF SCHOOL WITH COVID THEY MAY PERHAPS BE MORE LIKELY TO BE AT HOME LOOKING AFTER THEM AND SO TESTING MORE.

Just had an e mail from the NHS to book my booster jab. Unusual they beat my doctor's to it as they got me in fairly rapidly for the first two jabs. My doctor's tried to get me in for a flu jab too but I'm on holiday at the moment but I'll get on it as soon as I'm home.

ZOE SUMMARY TODAY

PREDICTED CASES WELL UP AGAIN- ON 82, 955 FROM 81. 823

THIS IS AGAIN THE MOST EVER ON ZOE - UP BY 1132 - at least LESS than 2830 yesterday after past few day rises of 2591, 2143, 1733, 1281 yesterday & 1147 in previous days.

It was 70, 098 last week.

ONGOING INFECTIONS - ALMOST GOT TO THE HIGHEST NUMBER EVER ABOVE MID JANUARY AT THE HEIGHT OF THE UKs WORST EVER WAVE.

1, 056, 097 UP from 1, 042, 926 - a rise of 13, 171 - which s at least a FALL from19, 833.

HIGHEST ZOE HAS EVER REACHED WAS 1, 059, 670 ON 11 JANUARY. SO WE SEEM A DAY AWAY FROM ECLIPSING THAT AND SETTING ANOTHER NEW UNWANTED RECORD

It fell below 1 million for the last time on 15 January.

Today week to week it us up by a weekly RISE of 86, 398 after ones of 77, 803 and 64, 969 STILLpast two days - SO THESE NUMBERS TOO ARE STILL RISING BUT SLOWING.

Ongoing case numbers will always lag daily cases as if you catch Covid you will be a Covid case for a week or two but a new case only once.

The higher the percent positive is, the more concerning it is. As a rule of thumb, however, one threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is 5%. For example, the World Health Organization recommended in May that the percent positive remain below 5% for at least two weeks before governments consider reopening. We might not be quite the outlier that some people seem to think..
