Congratulations to our public health overlords. The economic collapse you've been aiming for has finally started to crystallise.

Public health officials advise on course of action. Not make the decisions. Unless you are a Tory who is looking to deflect from the shitshow presided over by this Govt.

A lot of hospitality sector businesses will be on their arse without restrictions. Many households are taking a hit with food and fuel prices increasing, and there are utility price increases and the rise in NI.

I am not sure if it is the breweries or the landlords who are responsible for the substantial price increases post-lockdown. They are certainly not doing themselves any favours with these increases. Yesterday, I had two Guinness at a boozer. The beer cost £11.80 in total. Pre-pandemic, it was £9.00. My sympathy is certainly waning when it comes to these businesses, as well as the restaurants and cafes that are taking the piss.

I think I read this is how the German system works. But they do spend more on there health system per person than the UK does. but not a lot more.
I think it is time for a legitmate debate about the future of health care. Despite the nostalgia, the NHS is not "the best health system in the world." None of the deflection tactics, getting people to bang pots and pans etc etc, alters the statistics.I support the NHS but it must be totally modernised and reformed.

I honestly must be missing the point here.
The new strain is not causing over concern in people getting extremely ill or been rushed into hospital.
Are we in effect shielding the unvaccinated?
Because if we are this is absolutely stupid now, why cause people all this financial pain.
If everyone is getting it well so what? If its not causing any undue harm to many, why stop everything again.
I for 1 am totally pissed of with it now
You aren't missing the point, because there isn't one.

What the actual fuck is going on.

They mothballed the nightingales, massively reducing capacity, now we are locking down again after every fuckers had a vaccine and 50% are boosted.

If the NHS set up & Government can’t cope with something that South Africa seemingly breezed through it needs scrapping and starting again.

We all saw the scenes in Delhi, Italy and China when their waves started, the measures taken were justified.

Seen nothing like that so far and there was nowhere near the vaccine coverage.

Keep an eye on the number of Omicron cases this week and you will have your answer.
The jury is still out on how ill, or in what numbers, people will get, but that's where the concern lies.
It's fine for us plebs to be dismissive of how serious it may or may not be, it's not if you are the Chief Medical Officer or a cabinet minister having to make the decisions.

It's just completely ridiculous this is, it's almost they want a deep dark recession because its on its way, and a very tough 1 at that, covid will be the least of people's worries soon

This is the crux of it. we dont know if any reduction in severity this may have will be enough to not overrun the NHS when you take the number of cases into consideration.

the lockdowns were never about shielding the vulnerable, it was always about shielding the NHS. If the NHS gets overrun then everyone needing health care suffers.
