Good informative video as ever by Dr Campbell, interesting bit(about 25mins in)about immunity after getting covid.

Good luck @tolmie's hairdoo ,you've had a time of it but hopefully you're on the right path.

Weird thing, I don't know how everyone else's experience has been with regards to loss of smell and taste. I thought it might gradually wane but it's literally been 100% fine an hour ago and completely gone now. Thought the Mrs had just made me a watered down bland caramel latte but to test she brought me up a Bounty (I despise coconut) and ate it without tasting a single hint of flavour. Gone, just like that.

Weird weird weird.

I'll send you round the mother in laws stew then. I'll pick the clean pot up in the morning ;-)

Best of luck with it. Stay strong bud

Has anyone else who’s had it had a really heavy cold with it?
My voice is a rasp and throat like razors.
Headache & temp both down but v lethargic.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DATA:-

LAST 24 HOURS REGION / PATIENTS / Up/ Down / V Last week / VENTILATORS Up /Down / v last week.~

ALL ENGLAND 32, 202 / Up 132 v 26, 467 last week AND VENT 3175 / Up 120 v last week 2378.

These are frightening increases in both patient and ventilators day after day and now well over the previous high.

REGIONS:

EAST 4260 / Up 41 v 3520 last week AND VENT 370 / Up 6 v last week 241

LONDON 7608 / DOWN 191 v 6816 last week AND VENT 1085 / Up 12 v last week 866

MIDLANDS 5630 / Up 106 v 4553 last week AND VENT 504 / up 27 v last week 377

NE & YORKSHIRE Up 38 to 3429 v 2860 last week AND VENT 258 / up 12 v last week 190

NORTH WEST Up 53 to to 3785 v 2925 last week AND VENT 319 / up 15 v last week 242

SOUTH EAST Up 79 to 5546 v 4379 last week AND VENT 474 / up 41 v last week 364

SOUTH WEST Up 10 to 1946 v 1414 last week AND VENT 165 / up 7 v last week 98

London seems to have noticeably slowed in recent days as its cases have fallen. Much lower ventilator increase.

North West is certainly doing the worst of the regions beyond the south and have hundreds more in hospital than the first wave and closing in fast on the 350 ventilators at the peak too after doubling since Christmas.

The South East and South West are both well up on the first wave and for such a small region the SW struggling.

Winter fuel allowance isn’t applied for.
You get it automatically once you are a pensioner getting the state pension.
You only have to apply if you don’t qualify for a state pension.
It IS applied for when it does not turn up and is evaluated when as a carer your circumstances dictate how much you receive. Especially when they actually pay it to someone else.

I am sure it works perfectly most of the time but once an error is made as here it seems it is hard to unpick. That was my point about someone who might get missed off the vaccine lists by an error that sticks in the system.

Although tragic and avoidable, the number of deaths is an almost irrelevant figure at this stage. If it's 1 or 1 million, it certainly doesn't matter from a healthcare perspective. COVID kills less than 1% of patients but that doesn't mean a massive percentage aren't seriously inflicted by it.

A startling statistic out yesterday is 1/4 of everyone in hospital with COVID is under 55, that's the threat this thing poses. In the grand scheme of things it means the vaccines will not have any impact for 1/4 of COVID hospitalisations until likely late summer.

If we don't push down cases then hospitals will have to start to make decisions they shouldn't have to, for example do you treat the 30 year old with COVID who is struggling to breathe (but will survive) or do you treat the guy having a heart attack who might not make it? With lower cases, the 30 year old isn't hospitalised, the other guy is treated and maybe both survive?

Most of those under 55 in hospital will have underlying conditions so will be done in the 2nd part of phase 1

Mate yeah that's exactly how mines started over thr weekend. Thought I had picked up a chill (it was -5 here) and felt cold like. Bit shivery and lethargic more than anything else. Everything else has soon followed (temps been ok mostly so far). Have you been tested? If not, I would if I were you.

I'll send you round the mother in laws stew then. I'll pick the clean pot up in the morning ;-)

Haha she could put anything in there, I'd be none the wiser. Cheers mate!

I was ill same time as my dad had it so it’s pretty certain I did to as we spent time together and had same symptoms only he had difficulty breathing I didn’t. Head hurt, when walking the dog it keel over and cough for ages, couldn’t smell bleach when I cleaned the house, back and neck muscles hurt a bit too and I was shattered. Had a few whiskeys before bed each which helped me sleep, don’t advise for everyone....

Probably a dumb question, but if numbers of infections and deaths are low around April, how will we know if it’s due to lockdown/restrictions, vaccines, or it being Spring and decent weather? Just thinking about how we all fell into a false sense of security last Spring/summer.

Whatever it is down to the news will say it’s because of the vaccines and lockdowns...

They have it bad in South Africa with a new variant and it's their summer so I think we'll know if the vaccine is working.

Indeed. Went for a test late afternoon today.
Temp has gone down as has the throbbing headache somewhat but still feel lethargic, chilly and awful cold. Throat stings when i cough too so speaking is a difficultly.
Another rum nights sleep ahead too.

Hope you’re starting to fix up mate?
I hate being like this (the ‘weird’ state of mind when ill is not the best experience.

Good luck mate. Hopefully you've missed it, but that sounds similar so just be careful.

Doing ok thanks, things changing daily as I say earlier re the sense of taste/smell suddenly disappearing like a flick of a switch. Taking nothing for granted as I'm sure Kaz and plenty others can testify that I could think I'm fine but then suddenly worsen, at this stage I count myself very lucky to come under the mild category though I'm only on day 5 of symptoms.

It's unlikely there'll be a significant third wave given we have vaccines and so many people have now had it.
