Coronavirus (2021) thread

I am finding it easier to get some house work done, too, rather than constantly be on here chasing data and posting.

May that continue and speed up as we are all ready.

Next few days I have a column to edit. a book review to write and a TV show to make. None remotely connected with Covid either.

Used to be a fairly typical week a few years ago but most unusual these days.

So I may be on here less often too for a day or so.

Normal life is creeping up on us all and that is really great to see.

Let us hope we never go back to where we were in 2020. Though - as they used to say on Hill Street Blues - Lets Be careful out there.

You're time and effort has been a mainstay of this thread. Many thanks for your detailed input, HP.

Thank you. I will try to keep going. Just happy it is not as necessary and that the various governments are posting things less often, too, which is always a very good sign.

At least making a TV show via Zoom will make an interesting chapter in my book about TV - if I ever write it!

Havent seen the roads as busy as this morning in a while. Glad life is going back to normal, but one thing I havent missed. Plus the sun is shining.

Good thread on variants in general and the India one in particular.

Don't panic, but get India on the red list ASAP, and Johnson needs to cancel that trip, get ahead of the curve and take COVID seriously FFS (consistent message for the last 15 months, that one)

Posty jab update:
All fine yesterday but about 1am I woke up shivering, then sweats, then headaches then weird dreams which meant I didn't sleep a minute.
Dropped some paras this morning and aside from tired I'm good (slight sore arm).

Was hoping those reports of the jab immediately eliminating the long covid symptoms would happen....but nothing yet.

I posted about this on a FB running group and someone has suggested breathing excercies from someone who has helped long Covid runners get back in the game. Worth a shot....

Wales Data

NB This is for TWO days - Saturday and Sunday. So the comparison is with both days last week.

2 deaths - was 3 last week

102 cases - was 183 last week

0.5% positivity - was 0.7 last week

Thoroughly excited, lol, to say that I’ve only just visited this thread for the first time since Friday morning. I think thats the longest I’ve not caught up on it since the pandemic started, and also good to see it’s not jumped many pages.

Fuck off covid.
I'm finding this thread more cheerful than the rest of Blue Moon at the moment, to be fair.

Agreed the world fell apart and we have slowly dragged ourselves towards getting out of it thanks to the ingenuity of science and the resilience of ordinary people not mega rich super twerps.

So humans - being thick and greedy in equal measure - just had to let the super twerps engineer another crisis to ride upon.

Using the pandemic as a convenient face mask to hide their greed behind.

If this US (European) Super League crashes and burns we will find another.

And unfortunately City seem to have had the devil's choice to do the right thing and be king of the poor B clubs or the wrong thing and be bottom of the super rich A clubs.

We all know what we would have done. But then we live in the real world of Covid destroying lives not the one where the mega rich own half the planet and losing millions is a nightmare not an impossibility.

Very strange day. But also one that puts football into real perspective. It is not now for the fans. It is a commodity to be owned by the super rich as a way to get super richer.

Zoe App update:

Projected cases 1157 - down 156 on yesterday

Ongoing symptomatic cases 25, 878 - down 1621 on yesterday.

These are both afaik the lowest they have ever been.

Yorkshire and North West now out on their own as the two most infected areas.

Though both at low levels.

Nobody in UK In the highest zone for the first time I recall.

It is also being speculated that the growing gap where Zoe is predicting quite a bit less than the actual cases found by testing each day is that Zoe is symptomatic cases only reported and testing can include people who had no idea they had Covid as they are not actually sick.

THIS might cheer up a few understandably glum City fans.

England hospital deaths today ONE

In the East of England.

Sunday data always low but I do not recall at a time when we were checking it ever being a single death - tragic as that one is.

Last week it was 11 with 2 from the NW.

Scotland data:

0 deaths - was 0 last week

232 cases - was 199 last week.

2.5% positivity - was 2.4% last week

104 patients - down from 109 Friday - was 154 last week

14 Ventilated icu - down from 18 Friday - was 21 last week

As the person who thinks football died when they started playing it without fans during a pandemic I can say this gives me immense joy @Healdplace

Northern Ireland data:

0 deaths - was 0 last week

79 cases - was 97 last week

3.4% positivity - was 2.3% last week

7 day Weekly cases 776 - was 788 yesterday and 717 last week

2 Care Home outbreaks - was 4 yesterday & 5 last week Very good news here. Never seen it this low.

69 patients - was 69 Friday and 84 last week

5 ventilated - was 5 Friday and 6 last week

So total three nation cases today are 413 - but the Welsh data is from two days not 1.

Last Monday was 480 if you add together the two days for Wales over the weekend.

Mondays before 526 v 542 v 596 v 825 (all for just 1 day so 100 or more higher for both)

And the total deaths with out of hospital England to add (usually none given Sunday data )is 3

Though the 2 from Wales covers two days remember not just one as in the past.

Last Monday was 11

Mondays before 25 v 19 v 49 v 79
