There's a wealth of vaccination data breakdown to the nth degree here

The current overall UK adult vaccination percentage (1st doses) is reported as ~66%

Looking at the three Bolton constituencies they report from that link

Pop 16+Vaccinated% vaccinated
Bolton North East
86,481
46,844
54%
Bolton South East
92,666
45,777
49%
Bolton West
85,081
51,828
61%

The data is a week old, but it looks like Bolton as a whole is a fair way behind the UK, and Bolton SE lagging the most. I don't know Bolton at all but I'm guessing Bolton West is the posh bit!
Bolton west is less populated, more white and has an older demographic.

Scotland data:

0 deaths - was 1 last week

85 cases - was 204 last week

0,8% positivity - was 0,9% last week

(Guess we will see if this is artificially low when the England cases appear as that surely would be too)

69 patients - up 11 on yesterday - was 75 last week

13 Ventilated icu - up 2 on yesterday - was 12 last week

Again the hospital data like with the NW over past few days in England a little concerning as it is going the wrong way after weeks of falling. Hopefully a blip not a trend.

Indian and South African variants in Bolton so says the muen..

Always going to be related to people not taking the vaccine rather than a variant in my option. It’s well known that there has been vaccine hesitancy in ethnic minority groups and Bolton has a lot of people in this demographic. The NHS were doing a big push in Bolton a couple of months ago to try and convince them to have it, the message mustn’t have worked.

Northern Ireland Data:

Sadly it looks like the hospital data issues emerging elsewhere may be more than a blip as this is up quite a bit in NI.

O deaths - was 1 last week

99 cases - was 98 last week

4% positivity - was 9% last week

624 Weekly cases total - was 632 yesterday & 824 last week

BUT

6 Care Home Outbreaks - up 1 on yesterday and 2 on last week

These have started to edge up in the past week or so unfortunately.

AND

72 patients - up 10 in day - was 60 last week

5 Ventilated icu - same as yesterday - was 3 last week

These numbers again are going in the wrong direction and by a big number by NI standards.

Things are really really bad in India. Both my parents are down with COVID. My dad is on oxygen and has recently caught pneumonia. The worst thing is I am in the US and can't possibly travel there because flights are super expensive right now and I would have to quarantine for at least 14 days. On top of that, I won't be able to come back to the US for my job because incoming flights from India are banned now. I am looking to probably wait a few more weeks and then decide to go back as my parents are all on their own now.

Could be vaccine, could be social distancing, could be variants, could be a bit of everything. No data to make any judgement, other than vaccine is likely part of the answer, *if* my quick sums are right.

Poorer areas are likely to suffer from poorer social distancing due to pressures to work, non Covid-secure working environments, more crowded living conditions, more multi-generational housing etc.

49% vaccinated is surely enough to make a huge difference to transmission, so I'd guess other factors are important too. But it's only a guess.
