a university professor from Salford was on TV months ago stating that the suicide rate had actually dropped slightly during the first stage of lock down, but like that report would not say anything about later dates, maybe it had to do with the weather?
If your theory is correct, and I think it most likely is, then the same could not be said about the first few months of 2021, including the early spring, where the reverse could have been the case.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS

The latest week of 5 day data is now complete.

Here are the numbers after 5 days add ons day to day for the weeks in question. With the weekly Total AND subsequent add ons after the 5 days for the week.

Wk /// Day by Day (Reported day Mon - Sun) /// Weekly Total /// Add ons since 5 days

01 - 07 AUG /// 51 - 52 - 40 - 48 - 58 - 54 - 61 /// 364 /// (+ 52)

08 - 14 AUG /// 57 - 40 - 48 - 57 - 66 - 53 - 69 /// 390 /// (+ 43)

15 - 21 AUG /// 60 - 56 - 66 - 57 - 65 - 71 - 73 /// 448 /// (+ 33)

22 - 28 AUG /// 78 - 71 - 82 - 57 - 62 - 73 - 70 /// 493 /// (+ 29)

Obviously the add ons will rise as time passes so the earlier weeks would be higher but the changes here are modest.

As indeed are the week to week increase. Only a one third rise across 4 weeks is OK.

In the January wave here are two weeks numbers:

418 - 504 - 547 - 555 - 557 - 567 - 601 (Total 3749 & add ons + 856)

635 - 694 - 715 - 683 - 657 - 640 - 712 (Total 4736 & add ons + 798)

A rise week to week akin to the one in percentage terms we now have month to month AND total numbers almost TEN times higher every day and every week than now.

Thank goodness the vaccines worked for those out there still doubting.

SCOTLAND DATA

17 deaths - was 14 last week

6400 cases - was 4925 last week

11.1% positivity - was 11.5% last week - FALLING IS GOOD NEWS

624 patients - down 5 on yesterday - was 426 last week

55 ventilated icu - down 4 on yesterday - was 47 last week

These numbers down BUT a lot of deaths might be a factor in that.

Pro active we have not been throughout!
We were incredibly proactive during the initial stages of the vaccines being released.

In fact so proactive we gambled massively on paying for doses.

I can understand the hesitation. I’m not sure how I feel about my young grandson having one.

NORTHERN IRELAND DATA

12 deaths - was 4 last week - big jump here

793 cases - was 1550 cases last week - bit suspicious of this big fall as NI have had some data issues lately

BUT GREAT NEWS IF TRUE

4.9% positivity - was 8.1% last week - this fall seems supportive that the case number is real

135 CARE HOME OUTBREAKS - UP 4 ON YESTERDAY & UP 9 ON LAST WEEK

THIS HAS BECOME A PROBLEM AGAIN AND MAY BE WHY DEATHS AND VENTILATORS ARE UP

9393 weekly cases - was 10, 378 yesterday & 11, 642 last week - good weekly drop here

417 patients - down 1 on day - was 378 last week

38 ventilated - up 1 on day - was 26 last week

NORTHERN IRELAND PAST WEEK CASES BY AGE RANGE

0 - 19 (3005) 32.0%

20 - 39 (2859) 30.4%

40 - 59 (2316) 24.6%

60 - 79 (975) 10.4%

80 PLUS (257) 2.6%

The trend continues.

STILL the 62.4% under 40 catching it. But that WAS 80% in June. So big drop off here into older ages.

Nearly a quarter in the middle age group. This has edged up from around 17/18% so not changed much.

The over 60s on 13% from what was 3% is THE big jump that has probably been exacerbated by the high care home numbers and is almost certainly why hospital numbers, ventilators and deaths are rising.

That said this age range was 25% in the Winter wave so it is still only half that.

So total deaths today with out of hospital England to add is 152

Last week the total at this stage was 122.

That became 140 when England out of hospital was added later.

And the three nations cases with England to add today is:- 9468

Last week at this stage it was 8864

Last week England added 29, 417 (the highest England numbers last week).

To total 38, 281

Yesterday England added 24, 723 to the 10, 970 from the 3 nations to total 35, 693

Prof Neil Ferguson on the return to school in England starting this week:

"We expect to see quite a significant surge in cases, to some extent in hospitalisations, but whether that's going to require any rolling back of the relaxation of restrictions is too early to say. It really depends on the level of healthcare demand.”

Public Health England say they estimate the vaccination programme has saved between 102, 500 and 109, 500 deaths AND about 143, 600 hospital admissions.

Doesn’t sound particularly promising

178 all settings deaths

38, 154 cases - down just 127 week to week

28, 686 in England - down just 731 on last Thursday and up 3963 on yesterday. Biggest jump of the week. And flattest week to week in a while.

107 K MORE Pillar 1 & 2 tests today than both yesterday last Thursday - so positivity will be down.

Indeed the tests today are the first time they have topped one million in over a month.

GP surgeries have a lot to answer for.
Hospital Physicians think GPs have been a fecking disgrace.
Our little village clinic is such hard work for everything , just trying to speak to someone on the phone is nigh on impossible.. You have to email them, they will then tell you the doctor , nurse, physiotherapist et at will ring you between “8 & 12 am “ they will try twice..
if you don’t answer the phone you have to start the process again..
Must be awful for people that find lumps or are bloody ill..
I had a trapped nerve in my back, the best I could get was a phone consultation with the physio .. laughable really ,,.

I had a pcr test yesterday and tested positive.

Question about isolating times - can I still go to Leicester a week on Saturday?
I started testing negative after 6/7 days, just do lateral flows after first few days, I could see when the line started getting more feint. Who gives a fuck about a day here or there.

So many people and places are using covid as an excuse to be even shitter than they were before.

My grandma has had a letter today saying that she has an Ophthalmology appointment on the 15th.

The only thing is is that it’s a telephone appointment. It doesn’t even say why, but we can only surmise it is a follow up appointment to having her cataracts done 18 months ago.

Do I need to make one of those letter chart things? How can you have an eye test over the phone?

GM AND NORTH WEST SUMMARY

North West UP to its highest number in 42 days. Just managed missing on topping 4000.

Up by 606 on day to 3915.

However, this is only UP 17 from 3898 last week.

Better news for Greater Manchester

Up on day by just 161 of that 606 - well below expectations. On 1408.

This is actually DOWN 110 on last week when the NW goes up.

So a very good day for GM.

Stockport - as Zoe predicted earlier - did have the worst numbers again but only up 2 week to week so could have been a lot worse.

Everyone else is down week to week aside from Wigan -like Stockport up just 2 - and Tameside - up 5.

So no real disasters today even with those places not doing so well.

Only Bury and Rochdale were sub 100 today. And Manchester top scorer on 273 - up 74 on the day - but that was still down from 292 last Thursday.
