You will not be surprised that both NW and GM had their worst days in some time.

Everywhere up some quite big.

Stockport had easily the worst day. So Zoe got that right. Up 81 week to week to 221. Highest in some time.

Manchester topped 300 for first time in a while and up 74 week to week.

Most other places just modest rises.

North West up 562 in day to 4477. Highest in 45 days.

Up 972 week to week. Biggest jump in NW for a few weeks.

GM rises up 217 of that 562 - around par but more than it has been scoring lately

And week to week up 308 of that NW rise of 972 - which is actually OK and well below expectations.

As noted most places bar Stockport and to a degree Manchester and Tameside had OK day today an up only modestly week to week which is the number that most matters.

I assume this is the start of the schools explosion.

There were only about 40K extra tests today though so positivity will be well up.
Going to be a rough autumn and winter

They only went back on Wednesday

Looks like kids won't be getting vaccinated. The scientific experts have concluded that only high risk 12-15 year old's should get it as the health benefits are marginal. Seems like a sensible decision, doubt many parents would have been happy to vaccinate their kids anyway.

BBC News - Covid jabs not recommended for most 12-15 year olds

Looks like they’ve left it to the chief medical officers to make the decision.

Crazy decision.

I've posted research on here before showing there's a clear risk benefit to the children themselves. JCVI have never, to date, published any quantitative rationale for their position.

It seems against all the evidence, mere hand waving.

Meanwhile, we can expect pretty much every single child to get the delta variant. And yet more disruption to education as a result. And more transmission, hospitalisation and death to vulnerable family members.

3000 u18s have been hospitalised to date.

Almost every other developed country is doing this.

We've lost the plot.

Without turning the thread political, we've punted and got lucky with early first jabs and delayed second ones apart from that it's been a bit of a shambles.

Seems reactive eventually is as usual the way we work rather than proactive.

Let's hope we fall lucky again.

I see the EU has given up on it's legal case against AstraZenica and has orderd 200m new doses to be delivered next year in recompense. Who'd have thought they didn't have a leg to stand on?

The EU reached a settlement with AZ for a production schedule of the vaccine up to March ‘22. Part of the reasoning behind the settlement is that the EU no longer requires AZ vaccines. AZ has been sidelined in Europe going forward.

The agreement will probably not have a major impact on vaccination within Europe, as the EU will end up donating many of these doses. Numerous countries have pledged to donate at least 200 million doses of vaccines through the global facility COVAX by the end of the year, many of which will be from AstraZeneca.’ @politico

Utterly absurd. Scared of lawsuits or just scared of making decisions. And at the same time they will plead with families to help out Afghan refugees. Who are quite likely to get vaccinations here ASAP as they, of course. absolutely should.

This decision will inevitably kill people caught in the cross fire of their younger family and they have to know it.

They will pay the price in the end but so will many others this Winter I fear as I suspect they will fudge some of the booster jabs too.

The world will wonder how the UK managed to throw away the early advantage and success we had and end up next year in a bigger mess than many major nations thanks to the bizarre way we are stage managing the end game.

Hard to fathom some of these decisions. Which will backfire and they will probably then come up with someone else to try to blame when they do.

I presume they will be telling all the old and vulnerable not to go near their families this winter? Or if it ends up as it might they will just blame them retrospectively for not being cautious enough.

At the very least our leader should be out there fronting the nation telling us why the choice is not with the families to inoculate or not. As it should be.

I have no idea if this a good decision or not. Personally, I would have thought it made sense to vaccinate, but that is just a gut feeling.

Time will tell.
