Several hospitals in Greater Manchester have made the "difficult decision" to pause some non-urgent surgeries due to the impact of coronavirus.

This was described as a "temporary measure", which will also postpone certain appointments with the aim to "impact the fewest number of patients" possible.

A statement from the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership added: "It will not affect cancer and urgent care including cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and transplantation."

COVID admissions are rising quickly in Greater Manchester, from 126 on 19 December to 359 on 2 January. Inpatient diagnoses have jumped from 193 to 738 in the same period.

It was added that the "main reason" for cancellations is the "high and rising level of staff absence, with around 15% off, either ill with COVID or isolating."

At least the old covid virus will go down in history as being responsible for the death of the hangover - for years people would ask where were you on Monday even though they already knew the reason - and now it's been re-branded Covid (Infact im now known as the covid kid)

Gonna have to do something about these isolation rules.
Getting to the stage where there's a greater public health risk from NHS staff isolating than there is from the actual virus.

where did that figure come from? Worst i saw worst case was 75k deaths by end of April which about 500 a day over the period.
My apologies, that's hospitalisations, between 3000 to 10000 per day, deaths between 600 to 6000 per day. They nailed it ;)

Are you saying staff with covid should go to work in a hospital, are you qualified to say that’s safe ?
