Coronavirus (2022) thread

to give some context , I got my text from Christie’s so it may be more to do with my health than generally being offered now.

in any event as I had Covid in December I think I have to wait a period (12 weeks?) before getting it.
Thank you and that makes sense in context of the second post I made last night 10 minutes after the one you quote where I had dug deeper into the matter before calling my GP (which in the end of course I have not done) I had discovered that right now ONLY those with immuno compromised concerns are getting a fourth jab whilst the data on the need for the wider population is assessed after more of those reach the 3 month point beyond having their third jab.

So you may well get the fourth jab but at present the wider population will not. As in your case it looks a reasonable option but that it is as yet not establised in others. Though I would not be surprised if they are soon offered for the over 80s.As deaths in that age range - unsurprisingly - are still the highest.

The 157 today in England hospitals show 94 of those were aged over 80 and just 1 under 40

CFR down is consistent with vaccines working.

CFR also depends strongly on testing rates and treatments improving, and for covid in particular is so strongly agree dependent it's only really meaningful if quoted per age group, otherwise the current age profile of infections is what drives it.

If anyone is claiming that changes in CFR are showing vaccines are ineffective, they're wrong.
Yes that is my assumption but I have seen some trumpeting that it proves it is less harmful than flu so vaccinations are unnecessary (most of these ignore that we also have flu vaccines). They normally go hand in hand with claims that most people are in hospital having been vaccinated so why bother vaccinating? This was covered months ago on here

Still testing positive on LFT on day 7, if anything the positive line comes on quicker and stronger. Can’t go to City tomorrow now. No symptoms though. The way it’s going I’ll still be doing positive with LFT after 10 days, does a positive LFT mean I am infectious to other people?

No, not infectious after first couple of days of symptoms. I’d be going to City tomorrow if I was in your shoes, fuck it.

Wrong advice all around

People who have COVID-19 can infect others from around 2 days before symptoms start, and for up to 10 days after. They can pass the infection to others, even if they have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, which is why they must stay at home.

Gov website
Yeah I'd agree with that, mostly. The pre-requisite of being able to stop isolation on day 6 after a positive test was negative tests on day 5 and day 6. If that isn't happening, you need to isolate for the 10 days or when you get 2 negative tests before day 10.

I personally wouldn't test on day 10 though and would release myself as that was guidance for such a long time and there must have been strong scientific evidence that infectiousness was low for that to be the case.

Semantics. Most infectious in the 2 days prior and 2 days following symptoms start. Of course the government website is bound to still say the full 10 days. We are talking omicron now not delta, and also when people are fully jabbed.
