Full data on the other thread.

If the media headlines scare anyone do check out the detail in the other thread as the numbers are not all they seem today. This is always a big catch up day. And I have reason to think this may be the highest and the wave might even have peaked on 11 January according to both Zoe and the England death numbers at the moment.

Deaths 438 Cases up again to 94,432 - thoughstill down week to week.

But a lot of this is coming from rises in school testing again. School age now the biggest group testing positive once more in Northern Ireland and likely the rest. Over 60s testing positive there are dropping.

Hospital numbers in England good too.

Admissions down - the most week to week in the North West

In patients down by 403 to 16,218 - with every region falling today.

And ventilators down 9 to 614. With all bar London (214) and Midlands (107) under 100. North West on 69. Up 4 on the day but down from 97 last Tuesday,

I haven’t spent much time on this thread and I know it’s different over here in the States but I thought I’d share this really balanced, thoughtful interview with my county’s chief of COVID response. My county in California is one of the most vaxxed in the country, but this interview has a lot of great information about balancing protection with allowing society to function and some encouraging news on variants.

Cheers for posting that. A shame our media can’t do something similar.

Our media, particularly the BBC, don't understand the issues sufficiently to do it. They're not biased, just not intelligent enough. I subscribe to the New York Times on-line, fantastic coverage of Covid (and UK politics). We're let down here.

Optimism is all very well, but the calls of “it’s over” are wishful thinking. It isn’t over just because you’re fed up of it, we’re all fed up of it. But to just become complacent and pretend it’s not an issue anymore isn’t the answer, and no I don’t have the answer, I just hope that this relentless disaster movie plot has a happy ending sooner rather than later.
It's been over for 10 months, get used to it

Phew. It would've been 465,000 if they hadn't kept us out ! Hopefully this will be mainly Omicron with minimal effects to the health system.

You go tell the relatives of those that have died just this year its over thats just daft. Are we in the tail end yes I think we are, can we start returning to normal yes I think so,is it over no. They are just the facts.

I'd say they should have got vaccinated, now there's the facts

Could they all, where they all unvaccinated,,do you know that or does it just suit your agenda, no you don’t know, you are happy to let people die based on mistaken life choices says more about you. Either way its obviously not over if people are still going to hospital and dying no matter how much you say it.
