Corruption in English football?

It's an interesting theory. But what is more plausible, that

1) a Chinese businessman paid money to (or perhaps threatened?) a whole lot of persons in various positions to somehow alter the outcome of a game in the PL, or

2) that the game ref made an obvious error, which everyone with eyes will agree with, but the VAR felt he lacked enough data to alter the decision? Or maybe them two hacks are friends, and the VAR didn't want to belittle his buddy?

Occam's razor, etc...


I absolutely do not rule out the possibility of the game being bent to some extent, and that there are corrupt individuals associated with the PL, all the way from staff, players, ref's, and media people.
I think it's possible that this could be taking place far more than what we are aware of, as it would only concern very very few people who likely acted on their own and not as a part of an organized group.

But if ref's were bought, if media profiles were bought, that would have to involve an extremely large group of people, and I just can't imaging it being kept under the radar for so very long.
Would becoming a corrupt ref mean they get paid off? Why else would they do it? Then how? Cash? Money isn't that easy to come by without eyebrows being raised.

And who would be at the very tip of the Corruption pyramid? Who pulls the stings? A conglomerate based on several individuals?

I don't know mate... I just feel, or maybe it's just my hope (due to the love of the sport), that such a horrible and rotten thing as an organized collective manipulating the results, - simply could not happen. It just would require to many people being involved, and sooner or later one of them, just one, would come clear and blow the whistle.

Mark Halsey tried and was ignored. Calciopoli showed that a small group of 'elite' referees can be bought.

It took me seconds to find out about the saints owner looking to sell. I merely offer it as a reason because last night was bizarre. Not one media outlet I have read said their pen was legit and they all agree ours was nailed on.
Two very important decisions at key times in a match. The first got them back in the game the second kept them in it.
Maybe the premier league want a close finish to ensure revenue

Absolutely spot on,although don’t know about wanting a close finish to the season more about manipulating results or outcomes in games if possible,the wolves game was a similar situation Laporte goal disallowed would have been 2-0 HT and you could say possibly game done..

Last was indeed bizarre, and I there have been other instances similarly hard to understand, not only concerning City.

It's not all all impossible, especially when such a huge amount of money is involved... but again, so many individuals would have to be involved.



Do you rule out that we as a club are a part of any such foul play? We went from getting the hardest possible cup draws to very kind ones.
