COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Don’t understand why everyone, media included, are getting so wound up by all this numbers of deaths reporting.

In times like this it just really isn’t that important.

Thanks.

I note it says:

"Medical practitioners are required to certify causes of death “to the best of their knowledge and belief”. Without diagnostic proof, if appropriate and to avoid delay, medical practitioners can circle ‘2’ in the MCCD (“information from post-mortem may be available later”) or tick Box B on the reverse of the MCCD for ante-mortem investigations. For example, if before death the patient had symptoms typical of COVID-19 infection, but the test result has not been received, it would be satisfactory to give ‘COVID-19’ as the cause of death, tick Box B and then share the test result when it becomes available."

This would seem imply that any certification of a COVID-19 death which is not supported by a test result is only provisional, and that the records should be updated when the results are in?

My question still stands, that is, is EVERYONE who dies in the UK being tested for COVID-19?

It’s important to understand the overall scale of it. Might have an effect on people’s behaviour.

The only way an accurate picture will emerge is by comparison with overall deaths in previous years. This is being done by ONS but the data takes time to come through and is inaccurate until several weeks later when all data sources are taken into account.

True, but it will only give a more accurate picture of the deaths, but not an accurate one and not more about the virus. That is why it is so important to test, the dead as well as the living, since the more information we have, the more we can learn about this virus and the next.
