127 deaths in Spain and 6000 new cases. The shit is about to hit the fan again. And the four strongest unions look like they may strike as conditions for the school return haven’t yet been finalized and so far what the government have proposed is not adequate for protecting teachers according to the unions.

My own personal opinion is we’ll be lucky if the kids are in school for more than a month or two for the whole year. It’s obvious there is nothing they can do to ensure the safety of staff and kids so even if they try to open it will be closed in a matter of time.

This whole thing is really, really, really shit.

Btw a new set of data gives the regional breakdown of the all settings deaths each day per NHS region in England. This is via the new criteria they started using for all settings deaths last week.

These are deaths recorded yesterday with Covid and who tested positive within past 28 days.

Yesterday's 16 (all 16 were England) split as follows:

London 0
East 0
North East 0
South East 2
Midlands 2
Yorks & Humber 2
South West 3
North West 7

Scotland data up first as usual,

Last week it was 0 deaths 47 cases (1%) (26 from Grampian outbreak) and 258 in hospital (was 7 down on day before) and 3 in icu ventilator beds.

Todays numbers are 0 deaths but 77 cases ( 1 %) 249 in hospital (+ 1) and 2 icu ventilators (same) .

Those cases are the highest daily number in Scotland in three months.

27 of todays Scottish cases from the Tayside factory outbreak. And they are having a meeting to see if a wider lockdown might be needed in that area.

Several other clusters have schoolchildren included in them

12 new cases were from Grampian. But whilst that bar outbreak seems to be coming under control they are not removing restrictions because several other small outbreaks in the area seem not to be linked to the original one.

Scotland still hope to reopen sports venues from 14 September with limits on crowd numbers and social distancing measures in place.

if they are 77 cases, what does the 249 in hospital mean, is that the uk total?, and the 77 is scotland?

No, it's 77 new confirmed Coronavirus infection cases in Scotland over the past 24 hours. 249 is the total number in Scottish hospitals.

836 in UK hospitals (see full details on page 5246 from last night).

Most cases never become sick enough to ever be hospital patients of course.

When you see data like 1000 new Covid cases today in the UK that does not mean 1000 going into hospital, In fact the numbers who do will be at most 100. Probably many less. Many more people have had this disease than ever got ill enough to need hospitalisation.

And most people testing positive now creating these new cases are young and only mildly ill and indeed often had no idea they even had the disease.

The ones who become hospitalised are these days nearly always older and/or have underlying health problems already,
