The last date for which the gov offers full details for each nation on the numbers who WERE admitted to hospital is 5 August. On that date the numbers by country admitted were: England 52, N Ireland 1, Scotland 1 and Wales 74. So 128.

On 17 August - last day with 3 nation data (only Scotland missing) the totals were England 16, N Ireland 0, Wales 38 - so 54.

Scotland has recorded the highest daily rise of new coronavirus cases in almost three months - a jump of 77.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the total number of cases recorded now stands at 19,534.

She added while the prevalence of COVID-19 is low, the R number - the average amount of people someone with the virus passes it on to - may be above one

Some hopeful news from Africa. For the first time the weekly calculated daily average number of new cases from the continent has fallen. From 11,000 last week to 10, 300 this.

There have been over one million cases in the continent - the most in South Africa itself where the daily case numbers are now around 5000 compared with 12,000 at the peak.

Anyone who believes that is the true scale of infection in Africa is kidding themselves, most countries do very few tests, and a number are war torn so couldn't even if they could afford to. We'll never know what the true scale is there, and I suspect in a good number of other deprived countries, where only the wealthiest will get tested.

Scotland data up first as usual,

Last week it was 0 deaths 47 cases (1%) (26 from Grampian outbreak) and 258 in hospital (was 7 down on day before) and 3 in icu ventilator beds.

Todays numbers are 0 deaths but 77 cases ( 1 %) 249 in hospital (+ 1) and 2 icu ventilators (same) .

Those cases are the highest daily number in Scotland in three months.
If, as reported yesterday, contact tracing is over 90% then a rise in cases isn't, probably, a bad thing and the benefit should be a controlling of outbreaks like the Grampian one.

Wales data 0 deaths happily again. 19 new cases (down from 21) but ftrom signigicantly fewer tests. So with a % of about 0.5%. So an increase in that score.

V last week it was 0 deaths 15 cases and 0.4%.

for those who think Sweden has done well.

"Sweden records highest death tally in 150 years in first six months of 2020"

N Ireland has added more inpatients too and is now at 10. ~

No deaths or ventilator patients but 51 new cases - most in a few days. At 0.8% of tests and up on last Thirasday a lot from 8 cases at just over 0.1%.
