Ok thanks as always for the response. The movement of people in the GM area as a whole is the problem. I live 10 miles from Birmingham who are going to start having the same sort of problems but the problem is the amount of people commuting in and out of the City to work each day. It's a big issue

You mean those people who were urged to go back to the office? It was vital for the economy. Loads of folk milling about together like they were in late Feb /early March which has resulted in a 2nd wave? Who was that woman who said this was unforseeable?

I can't quite work out whether your having a pop or not? My question was about Leicester and how long it's taken them to get back to normal. It went quiet on that front. It would be interesting to see if they've ever gone back

No I am not having a pop at all mate I am just really musing on the mixed messaging and the suggestion that no-one could see it coming from Harding - it all revolves around proper track and trace - had they gone down the right route and chosen the commercially available app rather than being ideologically bound to try and develop their own and bung loads of cash into their mates then we would have had it like Germany, Ireland, Scotland and so on. Back that up with real enforcement so that bellend in Bolton can't come back from Spain, refuse to self isolate, have a party and go on a pubcrawl thats infected the town then we would be in with a chance.

So no fella not a pop at you at all

Well clearly it was difficult in 1918/19, given the mortality figures.

I suspect social issues - housing, lack of distancing - medical issues - no access to the medication and ventilators we have now - military issues - soldiers in crowded barracks and being repatriated on crowded ships played a huge part in that death toll - people wore masks but the odds were far more greatly stacked against them.

Sorry mate. Mrs works front line NHS so it's a bit of a touchy subject for me. I've kept my powder dry but if one more poster comes on and gives it the big hoax conspiracy and more people die of flu I'm going to give them my missus number to explain that viewpoint to her. Sorry again

The 16 England hospital deaths today were all aged between 69 and 97 and all of them had known underlying conditions.

It remains utterly sensible that we lock down older, vulnerable age groups and minimise interactions with those still out there willing to risk their health v their liferstyle.

And I have said on here before they need older icons like Bill Roache to do TV messages to explain this - not political broadcasts nobody really listens to.

Have no clue why they are so out of touch with the people they really need to persuade to stay safe.
Bill Roache: Older Icon
Brilliant
