COVID-19 — Coronavirus

We were too slow into the first lockdown and we have been too slow into second lockdown. We have still had to have them. If we had them earlier, prorata we would have less NHS out of work self isolating or with Covid 19. Better in hospital covid patient management means less deaths in some categories but can also mean longer in hospital stays. This can have adverse impact in overwhelming the NHS. Sadly more quick deaths, frees up beds. Not dying but having interventions for longer time periods doesnt.
I might be wrong but my impression is that hospital stay overall is shorter. ICNARC data certainly shows that ITU stay is shorter, which should help.

24141 cases today compares with 24, 701 a week ago yesterday and 23, 065 a week ago today.

So in the middle of both a week apart. Which looks good news. And very flat.

285, 423 pillar 1 & 2 tests today for the 24, 141 cases

Almost exactly the same tests as last Thursday (the 23 065 day) and 20 K more than last Wednesday (the 24701 day)

So the worst area switched today as NW had a better day and fell to 4594 - from 5020.

The UK's deaths per case figures are dreadful.
By far the worst in Europe.
Is the NHS just shit or are we really that unhealthy? Probably both.
Or, just maybe, we are over reporting them?

The WHO definition states the following: Note: Persons with COVID-19 may die of other diseases or accidents, such cases are not deaths due to COVID-19 and should not be certified as such. In case you think that COVID-19 aggravated the consequences of the accident, you may report COVID-19 in Part 2. Please remember to indicate the manner of death and record in part 1 the exact kind of an incident or other external cause.

Putting up fences outside the halls in Fallowfield seems a tad excessive.

PHE does that, 28 days and a diagnosis. ONS doesn't. it has to be the main cause on the death certificate for it to count via ONS
