It’s very clear that those that are responsible for running education from nursery to university did not have and still don’t have a coherent pandemic contingency plan in the way that large business has. If that had existed there could have been a comprehensive on line learning programme from the first lockdown and we would have avoided the debacle of inviting students back to halls of residency and then turning them into super spreaders. Notwithstanding that it didn’t exist prior to the outbreak it still doesn’t exist at anything like a national level. We are keeping schools and universities open because there is little alternative. If large swathes of business can work from home, why not kids and students?
