It’s very clear that those that are responsible for running education from nursery to university did not have and still don’t have a coherent pandemic contingency plan in the way that large business has. If that had existed there could have been a comprehensive on line learning programme from the first lockdown and we would have avoided the debacle of inviting students back to halls of residency and then turning them into super spreaders. Notwithstanding that it didn’t exist prior to the outbreak it still doesn’t exist at anything like a national level. We are keeping schools and universities open because there is little alternative. If large swathes of business can work from home, why not kids and students?

A lot of rule breakers (who tend to be the younger generation) have caused this lockdown. The same entitled dickheads will wonder this time next year why they can't get a decent job.
Plenty of oldies breaking rules as well. I offer you Stanley Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn and that Scottish SNP MP as examples.

This is a week old. You may already have discussed this. US regulators have concerns over their trials. Not good news because if true it will delay the vaccine approval process in the US.

You would have thought the likes of Fauci, or colleagues, would have thought through the design protocol of these trials, after all they are publically funded. It's the scientist's job to come up with a vaccine and statistically interpretable sets of results and its civil servants job to integrate this into a strategy.

How stupid is it that a vaccine might be delayed because we have 4-5 vaccine trials instead of 1.

you do alot of uni courses online. also there is no substitute for classroom education for school children.

The technology is there but a lot of kids don’t have the facilities at home to make it work.

Pussyfooting about to get to here.

Should have locked us down 3-4 weeks ago when they said it was doubling and properly put the brakes on but introduced some shit tier system which i gather now isn't working. Remember when Boris said he wouldn't hesitate to slam on the brakes, you've left it too late and we've gone over the edge.

Fucking can’t wait until all the people who have ignored all the rules and measures and lamented stupid conspiracy theories cry about their “FREEDOM” being taken away again. They’ll be fucking moaning like fuck As will people on here that none of it makes sense, not realising that them not doing the basic decent things to protect people’s lives is what’s got us back into the situation we had in March. I’m shitting myself working at the hospital, this is going to get so much worse and people just don’t care. This country fucking pisses me off.

Universities are spending £millions getting their courses on line. Maybe they should have been better prepared but the Uni’s are spending the student fees on the type of on-line learning you are talking about. This sort of thing probably doesn’t make the news.

That’s been going on since I was a school 40 years ago, life skills should be at the forefront of education. The internet and access to be things have changed things tremendously yet the core way of learning doesn’t seem to have, the three Rs are fundamentals, be literate and the rest will come, co signs etc in math fucking pointless, learn about overdrafts, credit cards etc

How is learning about cosine and PI fucking pointless? You talk about teaching the fundamentals, but they are the basic fundamentals of geometry.
Do you not want energy, electricity, x-ray machices, ct scanners or any machine that utilises the electro magnetic spectrum? School is about teaching people the basics. Just because you personally do not need to use geometey in your adult life does not mean that it is not important. Most things that you need to live your life today, from the house you live in, to the way you heat it are built on, or need the basic principals of geometry. Yet, for some reason you seem to think they are not important. The mind boggles sometimes.

at Least they will be better prepared for the next one. Really interesting to see the different experiences of my grandkids during lockdown Covering two primary and one secondary school. One of 5h3 primary schools was excellent not just for online learning but keeping the school community together and looking after the kids emotional well-being. From what I saw it was exceptional and worked. The other primary school did virtually nothing. The secondary school was somewhere in between and work was assigned and marked online. It really seemed to be left to the schools themselves which isn’t right.

So if we had the full lock down starting a month ago and the infection rate stayed around the same and we came out the lock down now how long would it take for it to be where we are now!? See that’s the dilemma!
