Covid and travel discussion

So we have our transport minister proudly proclaiming that 30 odd countries will accept brits double jabbed with vaccines made in the Uk, Europe and India but won’t be allowing the same unless they have been vaccinated in the uk so my relatives who live in France and have both had AZ double jabbed have to isolate for the full 10 if they travel over even if on UK passports. Ran by fucking donkeys fuelled by arrogance.
If I read it correctly, the Yanks won't be letting anyone in if they have had the A.Z jab.

Canada have relaxed the travel restrictions so that any Canadian citizen or permanent resident will no longer have to isolate when re entering the country.
They just showed on the news the complete chaos at the airport and the passengers are forced to stay on the plane, out on the tarmac because the arrivals area is completely full. That's the last thing I would want when getting home after a week of boozing in the sun.

Doesn't the red list get updated again on Thursday?

Be a hazard to book a holiday now and find the destination goes red on Thursday

Yep, should be another announcement (or more likely leak then announcement) on Thursday.

Unless people are looking at relatively obscure holiday destinations, there shouldn't be any obvious bucket and spade places going from amber to red next week.

Turkey looks a candidate for promotion to Amber.
Italy and France rumoured to be going green.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the Balearic Islands relegated to amber, cases have sadly but inevitably spiked over there, particularly Majorca.
Can see Indonesia going red before long.
Rumours Dubai might get amber status but I can't see it happening anytime soon due to the transit/hub problem.

As always, worth remembering the traffic light system is relevant for inbound travel only. Italy might go green but it's still 5 day quarantine for arrivals from the UK at present.

Being utterly selfish thankfully Majorca going Amber wouldn’t impact my trip as I fly on the 20th day after the new double jabbed thing comes in for Amber

The Turkey decision if it happens is odd as that was being used as a back door by people returning from India to avoid Government ran hotel isolation

Yeah Turkey does indeed have a similar problem to UAE, as Istanbul is such a global hub for flights.
Cases were very high in Turkey but have fallen a lot; rumours doing the rounds it will get amber status either next week or the following review but that remains to be seen. I kinda think the Gov will be cautious with it but it seems caution goes out the window from the 19th here so it's anyone's guess!

It's high time we get some Greek islands on the green list; places like Kos and Santorini are barely recording any new cases, and although cases in Greece are on the rise (as is most of Europe) this is mostly the mainland.

Croatia really should go green as well (so probably won't)

Delta is out and free so but as you say 19th is open season so Greece will be de facto open. My trip has been rescheduled four or five times and bizarrely enough I just want it out of the way now as the stress of cat herding the other three lads who I will be cycling with over there every time we have to rebook is driving me to more drink

Had been planning to go to Cyprus on Saturday - but friends out there tell me cases are going through the roof and they think they will go on the red list

I have Greece as a back up plan

I think Cyprus have the most rolling cases per 100k in Europe at the moment, would say definitely a good chance they go from amber to red.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Cyprus introduce more local restrictions as well, not sure how fun a holiday would be out there at the moment.

Greece is always good.
